Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+
When attempting to change the password, instructions tell me to enter current password and press and hold # key. Opener light should blink 4 times. Light doesn't blink, but door opens. If I let door close completely, I am unable to open the door using the keyless pad. I am unable to change the password. Can you help?

I took a ladder went up and pushed the learn button once. The light comes on steady, then go to the remote and put in the 4 digit code you want and press enter. That's it, it worked.

In Canada Chaimberlain has a really helpful telephone line with an IVR
that does get you to the fix quickly. And it did solve my issue
with the remote. My problem was the previous owner of the house
did not leave the code. The basic steps were.
1. Make sure the battery is good.
2. On the motor unit of the actual garage door opener press the learn button, mine was under a white plastic bulb cover that I had to remove.
3.While the learn button LED remains on for 30 seconds, on your keyless remote type in your four didget code that you want and then hold down the enter button for 5 seconds.
4. The light on the motor unit then started to flash confirming it had learned the code from the keyless remote.
5. Try the keyless remote by pressing your four didget code, then pressing enter. Your door should work.

To the guest's question. normally on liftmaster products you need to hold the 'learn' button on the back of the operator for 8-10 secs (till the led goes out). Then have all your remotes and keypad handy and reprogram them all. Push the button on the back of the unit then one of the remotes (1-2 sec) light will flash. Then repeat for the keypad press button and go enter your 4 digit code and hold enter 1-2 sec.

Click HERE to view the online manual.
Is the buttons flashing the required two times once you've held in the # key ?
Try setting up a temporary pin first and then changing it back to a normal one again.
Let me know once you've tried it please.

Tips for a great answer:
Aug 05, 2014 | Building Materials
1. Press the four buttons for your personal entry PIN, then press and hold the * button. The opener light will blink three times. Release the button.
2. Press the temporary 4 digit PIN you have chosen, then press ENTER. The opener will blink four times.
3. To set the number of hours this temporary PIN will work, press the number of hours (up to 255), then press *.
3. To set the number of times this temporary PIN will work, press the number of time (up to 255), then press #. The opener light will blink once when the temporary PIN has been learned.
Test by pressing the four buttons for the temporary PIN, then press Enter. The door should move. If the temporary PIN was set to a certain number of openings, remember that the test has used up one opening. To clear the temporary password, repeat steps 1-3, setting the number of hours or times to 0 in step 3.
