Wavy picture When we turn on our HDTV Mitsubishi WS-55513 it has a wavy, jittery picture for about the first minute. Then goes perfect and stays that way for as long as we have it on.

Does anyone know what could be causing this and how do I fix it? We are pretty electronically inclined if we know where to go to fix it. Thanks in advance for any input

Mine is also doing this, but then turns off on it's own. Sometimes when we turn it back on the wavy lines are there and sometimes they are not, but it will get progressively worse, then turn off about every 15-20 mins.

1. "wavy" may mean a signal problem inside the set--are you seeing colors out of position or skewed around letters etc?

2. Does it do it when a DVD is played? (this will rule out certain things).

We got our mitsubishi in 2000. it was working fine and then little by little the picture has wavy lines and you can't see the movie, it has gotten much worse. what can we do?

The wavy lines are caused by the aging of the vertical deflection unit = the defective parts (some capacitors and resistors) must be replaced.
The fix wont be very expensive - the parts will cost less than $25 - but you need a good electronics repair guy to do the job and this is going to cost you.
Remember, it's an old tv that has started to show its age. Maybe it's time to start saving for a new one.

Have wavy lines in picture sometimes-could this be a faulty wire?

On the signal board there is 4 surface mount transistors. There is one right by the input board (BA09), i would check the corresponding caps and diodes close to it also. I would replace all of the 4 transistors. If this SMT starts to go you will see wavy lines in your picture than it will go away in 3 min or so and get worse over time until no picture is seen. When it totally fails you will have no inputs what soever but you will have an OSD screen and when you choose DTV you will get a scrolling picture.

Wavy picture wife said it went all of a sudden

I have seen this several times in my shop. There are bad solder connections on the signal board. I suggest an authorized Mitsubishi repair shop for this.

It looks like you have a convergence problem here, probably a defective convergence IC.

It is capacitors in your TV set. If you fix it before the set goes out, you will save about a grand. Contact me @ techman32k@yahoo.com
