Question about Gateway PC Desktops

1 Answer

I recently found out that my computer is running at 100% capacity. It has been slow for quite some time but I dont have the expertise to clean it out or find programs in my computer that dont belong or arent necessary to its normal functions. It seems companies will "scan" aka SCAM you into believing that your computer has adware or spyware or is infected to a certain degree but im very interested in just doing the grunt work myselfso that i may be aware of how to destroy the problem now and prevent it from happening in the future. Thank You very much-Sam, San Diego CA.

Are all computer batteries the same size?

The short answer is "No"

The long answer is:-

Physical size, input and output voltages, output capacity and the connection type to the PC varies from one PC to another.
If you are asking about batteries for your particular PC, then there are four things that need to match the PC's requirements, they are-:

Physical size, has to match the space provided for the battery.

Voltages, the output voltage from the battery to the PC must match the voltage required by the PC. (This can be found in the handbook, on the back of the PC, or the manufacturers website.

Battery Capacity, this is stated in one of two ways. either, in Wh,(watts per hour) or Amps, the higher this number, the longer it will run your PC.

Connections, this must marry-up with the connections on the PC.

For instance, the battery information label for my Inspiron 1720 reads as follows:-
Rating: 11.1v === Capacity 56Wh which means,
Voltage; 11.1 volts (=== DC), less than this and the PC will not run, more than this WILL damage the PC
Capacity; 56Wh means, if the PC uses 56 watts per hour, it will run the PC for one hour. If it uses 28Wh, (56/2=28), it will run the PC for two hours.
The higher the Capacity, i.e ??Wh the longer it will run the PC and will not harm your PC but, increased capacity batteries commands a price.

When it comes to the Power Supply Unit, (PSU), or "Charger"
Input: AC 100-240 volts ~ 1.5A 50/60Hz (~ refers to AC)
Output: DC 19.5 volts = 4.62A (= refers to DC)

Input from the wall socket of Alternating Current anywhere between 100 and 240 volts at 1.5A at 50 or 60 Hertz. In other words this PSU will work world wide with the right plug adaptor, (if needed), to convert the existing plug to the wall socket of the country you are in at the time.

I hope you find the above, informative and useful.
Kind regards,
Ron.

Et1810 runs very slow

There are lots of little things that slow down a computer, mostly it is programs that are running, but day to day clutter can slow your computer down too.
A good thing to try is to download a good program like Ccleaner or Reginout. I personally Use Reginout because i don't believe on free products.
It will analyze your computer, and clean up all that it can safely clean, inducing your registry.
It works well, and is 100% reliable.

Acer Aspire t690 Desktop Freezes or reboots with in minutes of start up...Running Windows Vista. Help???

It is possible that your computer is overheating and is shutting down to prevent it from doing any harm to itself.
Make sure that all fans are clean, there must be no dust present as it hinders airflow!!!
Install as many fans as possible. Computer temps should be in the region of 30-40 degrees centigrade. To avoid CPU throttling, where the CPU slows down to prevent frying itself.
Please take the time to rate my expertise.
Thanks

My computer sporadically moves very slow and sometimes just stops for a while. Often I have to wait up to a couple of minutes to get moving again. Other days everything is normal. I probably have more...

Older computers get full of rubbish/malware/running programs and this slows the computer down soooo much. Try follow this little guide http://www.fixya.com/support/r5272277-secure_clean_computers
Adding a little more memory can also work wonders.
Windows xp like at least 512mb, vista and windows 7 like 2gb

I have a dell computer and its running slow

Disk Clean up is a small percentage of what you need to do. As you go by installing and uninstalling programs a lot of debris of programs keeps the Windows Registry bloating more and more. And each time you give a command it has to read the registry which takes time. And you feel the computer is slowing down.
Solution:-
Go to www.ccleaner.com and download CCleaner free and install it. Run it and clean up the registry and all others extra baggage that slows the computer down. And wach your PC/laptop gallop after that.

Computer running on 100% capacity

100% sounds like something bad is running like adware, spyware or a virus possibly.

I would suggest going to Start>Run and type in msconfig. Then go to the startups, and you can uncheck the things you don't need. Things like adobe reader, adobe updates, and such can be turned off.

Second, download and run the following programs, ccleaner, Malware Bytes anti malware, and Super Anti Spyware.

Run the ccleaner and delete all your temp junk, then run scans on both the other programs. You might need to turn off your anti virus program to do this.

Slow downloading and slow general usage

If the computer has always been slow, then yes additional RAM will help. If you are running XP, 1 Gb or ram runs great, 2 Gb runs a touch better. If you are running Vista, I highly recommend moving to 2 Gb.

If the computer is generally getting slower and slower, then it just needs a tune-up/clean-up. I am assuming you are not computer savvy, so I would suggest calling a local computer shop. Ask them for a general cleanup service on your computer. Do not pay more than $100.

My computer is very slow - not responding

Sounds like you have some spyware on your system.. Recomend that you download adawre (free from lavasoft), spybot (free software) and c-cleaner (also free)

Run c-cleaner first , then adaware (keep running till it is clean, sometimes it takes up to 4 times to get them all) -then run spybot, run it till it is clean (again sometimes it takes several runs to clean it all)
Then run c-cleaner again.

Try this first. If does not help, write back and we can go from there.
