55pp935217 Way too much blue

Hi, I have a Philips 55pp935217 that was given to me by a family member. It had the convergence problem where the colors weren't lining up. I read on this website that I should change the IC's. I did that and put it all back together. The convergence problem seems fixed as the colors look like they are lined up, but now there is way too much blue. Also, in the manual convergence menu, if you move the + it doesn't show it as moving on the menu screen, but it does effect the picture. Does this sound like bad resistors or maybe I got some wiring wrong when I put the circuit board back in. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. So you're saying if the blue CRTs coolant has gone bad, it will cause too much blue in the picture? Like on a car game, the taillights are blue instead of red, and the yellow lines on the road and even taxis are blue. It seems as if things that should be green are good or at least better off. Everything just seems to be the wrong color with blue being more dominant.

On the convergence screen, the cursor won't move in any direction. The colors weren't off before the IC's went bad so it just seems as if it was something I did. Are the IC's strictly for lining the colors up, or do they have anything to do with displaying the correct colors?

If it ends up being the blue CRTs coolant, is it possible to change the coolant?

First of all, thanks for replying I appreciate the help. I checked the yokes and it looks like they are all going to the right place. I brought another tv in the room and put them both on the same channel to compare the color. Everything that is supposed to be blue is red, and everything that is supposed to be red is blue. Is there any other sets of wires that could be reversed? There is a small circuit board that sticks up out of the board with the IC's that has three identical plugins. I don't know what they're for, but maybe they could be wrong?

UPDATE - TV IS WORKING CORRECTLY NOW!!!

So on that little circuit board sticking out of the circuit board with the IC's, I figured if green was in the middle and the green seemed to be the only color close to normal, that I would switch the first plug with the last plug and now everything is good. I'm not sure if these are the yokes you were talking about because there are three identical plugs that also plug into the big circuit board that the IC's are on. Either way though, thank you so much for your time and help. Problem solved.

Pistons 22, or if anyone could post some pics of the board, where the IC's and CRT's are located? I am also being given this same set, with only convergence problems....so far. Some part numbers would also be nice.

    Thank you, DM

No sounds like the blue CRTs coolant has congealed and thats whats giving you the trouble. the blue tube get congealed and will cause the blue to not even show up properly in the convergence menu

Are you sure you plugged the convergence yokes back in correctly when you replaced the ICs? As from your description I am less likely to believe the coolant is contaminated as the coolant will mess the color up but not in the way youre describing. The convergence yokes are the group of three identical wire clips that plug into the module where the ICs are one is for the red , one is for the green and one is for the blue. They all are identical but they have to be plugged into the correct socket. They go from that board up to the circuit board. Also check your solder on the new ICs to insure that none of the pins are bridged with solder.

yes those are the yoke plugs. Little plugs all identical thats what controls the 3 colors.

SOURCE: Model 55PP935217 multiple convergence mode,

I understand your frustrations, and if you did the work yourself you can feel really bad. In this case if you really want to save this TV, I would suggest you visit Union Electronics. And purchase a reworked replacement board. In many cases this is the best route to go and the price is reasonable. Call them at 1 800 648 6657. I have had very good luck with this company! And these boards are guaranteed, ask for the lenghth allowed. Have your TV model # and tell them you are looking for the convergence board. Thanks for asking!

You have a bad convergence IC. I would recommend replacing both. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4220499-change_projection_tv_convergence_ics which explains the problem, how to correct it and where to get the parts. Let me know if you need more help. convergence i.c.s change both of them even if only one color is out. if one is bad the other is usually going to give out soon. the part # should be. stk 392-120. also check resistors around i.c.s if the open you wont be able to adjust convergence.

Philips Blue Shadowing

If you have not already done so go into the picture menu and set the convergence. The convergence is the angle at which the three picture tubes meat at a given distance. The tv will have at least 3 and up to 64 convergence points, and those 64 can be set for all three colors. This can be tiresome but I'll be it will solve your problem. What your trying to do is get the color in the cross-hair so you cannot see the color behind the target. On top of the fine setting for each point and color you will probably have 3 gross adujustments for blue and green and maybe red. These adjustments will affect positioning, like what you are discribing. You should do this at least every month, the thermal cycleing of the lamps is what will cause this to creep out of adjustment.

Afraid this is a common problem with Phillips, what happens is the coolant in the CRTs becomes contaminated, this is most common in the Blue and green, So what you have to do is have the coolant changed. Here at our shop we charge $250.00 for this. For most TV newbies this is money well spent. We have see coolant changes go horrible wrong, Anything from a coolant leak, broken CRTs, relay bad convergence after the repair, to the relay bad of a small leak that will destroy or burn your TV set down. Best bet is to get a repair shop that has the tools and expertize to do this for you

change the convergence ICs also check the resistors right next to the ICs as 1 or 2 of them may be open as well.

Blue out of whack around sides

I have the convergence problem with the red. After reading your site I replaced the 2 ICs and the problem is worse. Before the only problem was I could not adjust the red horizontal. Now I have no control over the vertical or horizontal and the overall picture is very red and it bows at the top and bottom very bad. A friend said I might have the ribbon connector in wrong or the convergence (silver box?) box maybe bad. Any ideas? Thanks,Dave.
