Maytag Model MTB2456GE problem

My freezer fan does not seem to stay on. We can push to fan with a knife and it will go on, otherwise, it won't work on it's own. It also makes a terrible cracking sound. Can you help? Also, how can we remove the fan cover in the freezer?
