2.5'' external fell down

Sorry, but if your hard disk fell down and now isn't regognized by the computer the most possible situation is that the disk is destroyed.

I've connected my Samsung 250GB HD250HJ SATA drive (from a Linkstation) to my PC with a sata-ide adapter. It's recognised at boot time but I get the message 'primary master hard disk fail'. It isn't...

You may need to address the way that the old HDD was used in the BIOS. Meaning that if you had regular IDE drive the setting that may be in the BIOS might need to bee disabled and that could be the cause to the new SATA IDE controller you have installed as a boot device. Also if you are trying to boot from you new SATA drive you will need to install some form of and operating system on it like windows or whatever you have been using.

Sometimes it’s easier to create a disk image of the old drive and transfer it to you new SATA, using a disk image utility like Norton Ghost.

Of course I am assuming that you are using a PC and not a MAC.

My PC don't recognize HD Samsung Sata II 250gb

If you mean the drivers for your SATA harddisk, you should have gotten a CD with your motherboard that contains drivers they might be labeled as RAID, sata, or EIDE controller. when you click that it should prompt you for a floppy disk to put the drivers on, you need to put a floppy disk in drive A and then extract the RAID drivers to your floppy, when installing windows press F6 at the begining of the installation and it will act like it didn't work for a minute and then it will pop up asking you something, you press S and then you will be asked to insert your floppy disk. It might ask you if you want to install the x86 or x64 drivers, x86 is 32bit and x64 is 64 bit, if you don't know which you are using it should tell you somewhere on your windows disk. another option is to get a sata controller that isn't part of your motherboard, it would be a pci-e card and it would come with drivers. I don't know where you could download your drivers from because I think the driver you need is specific to the type of SATA controller your motherboard has in it, but I do know that seagate and western digital have sata drivers available as well for their harddrives so I don't know what to tell you. best shot is your motherboard driver CD.

Samsung 250GB HD250HJ

Hey, congratulations on successfully installing the harddive.

Since its brand new, there is no volume in the disk (no partition and not formated)

To create a new volume and format the disk for the first time

on desktop, right click my computer icon, select manage from the menu, on the left side of the management window click on disk management

now on the right side, find your new harddrive, right click on it (its most likely the drive 1)

so right click on the 250gb hdd, create new volume, use NTFS default settings, and you may use quick format. normal format will take from 15 minutes to a hour or more.

with quick format the disk will be useable within seconds.

after this is complete you will see a new disk in my computer.
