Alps pointer device driver

I have many problems with my laptop mouse. I can't type without the mouse jumping around. It just goes crazy. I am tired of it. I looked at the problem devices and there is many logs of the mouse driver failing. I have contacted HP and they have no solution. When the computer was less than 15 days old, I took it back to best buy to return it. They told me they would charge me 15% for the return unless they could find a problem with my laptop. The nerd squad checked out the computer and they found no errors. Thinking the computer is fine, I took the laptop home. It still has the same problems. I cant stand using it. The computer is 4 months old and I have do not use it any longer. I am looking at Costco for another one.
I am thinking about fileing a complaint with the BBB. What can you do? I feel cheated and will never buy anything at best buy. I have a business of my own, and I let people know of my experience. This would never happen at costco or Fry's. What can you do? My email is rg380@nyu.edu pointer jumps around, and a error message pointer has stopped working looking online for a solution

ALPS pointer device driver. I imagine it works for nonDell laptops:

The software which allows you to set the sensitivity of your mousepad and touchpad is ALPS. Here is the link from the Dell site. There is as later version out, but the below is the latest signed off on by Dell:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads > Choose a Model > …. > Category > Mouse and Keyboards > Alps Driver

When it is installed, there is a little square computer monitor icon on the little strip of icons on the lower right of your screen. Double click to open. In the Hardware tab should be both your mouse and touchpad. Select one, make settings in other tabs, then select the otehr. In the Touchpad tab, uncheck the Draglock box . Click Touch Sensitivity, and pull down lower.

Dont give much pressure or harder press over the area and on the keyboard on your laptop. If any pressure on top area will makes your touch pad to start working all laptop has it option to off it . Also make your mouse sensitivity very low - if you set it in high a small movement or any kind or pressure over that can make it on.

Jumping Cursor

If you experience a jumping cursor where it jumps from one line to another, go to this link and download the driver for ALPS pointing device. This is from Toshiba (thanks to them for having the most updated touchpad driver) but regardless of your computer, IT WORKS!!!

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/download.jsp?ct=DL&soid=2475604&ref=EV

After downloading the driver
>Go to Control Panel
>Open Mouse icon
>Go to Advanced Tab
>Click on the Advance Configuration Button
>Mark the following options with a check:
>>disable tapping
>>disable pointer movement
>>disable scroll function
>Click Apply
>Try typing on a word pad

Inspiron Keyboard Jumps Around

Install the latest touchpad driver from support.dell.com

There is a setting in the touchpad tab of the mouse driver. Either Enable PalmCheck or Disable touchpad when typing (Depends on Synaptics or Alps drive I believe)

With palmcheck enabled, the touchpad is disabled when typing

Dell d600 mouse pointer jumps into corners if working on documents etc.; maybe if the system stores data in the cache or ram, the cursor wether jumps into the left down corner or moves slowly in directon...

What the issue is, is the eraser head mouse in the enter of the keyboard. When you type, it's putting uneccessary pressure on it, and it makes the pointer move. The only solution I know for this is to get the updated ALPS driver for the mouse, and disable the eraserhead (The updated driver gives you an option to do this), thereby using only the touchpad mouse.

Cursor jumps around

If your cursor moves erratically on the screen (for example, if it jumps around the screen, moves at varying speeds, or selects items on its own), perform the following steps:
  1. Clean the surface of the touchpad with a dry, soft cloth to remove grease, sweat, moisture, or other liquids.
  2. Adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad:.
    1. Click the Start button and click Control Panel.
    2. Click Printers and Other Hardware.
    3. Click Mouse.
    4. When the Mouse Properties window appears, click the Pointer Options tab. (Figure 1)
      10583022.gif
      Figure 1: Pointer Speed
    5. Under Select a pointer speed:, click to move the slider bar closer to Slow.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Check to see if the touch pad still behaves erratically.
  3. If the touchpad still caused the cursor to behave erratically, attach an external mouse to your computer and restart your computer. Use the external mouse to see if your cursor still moves erratically.

Alps pointer device driver

There is an easy fix to the mouse problem .... It may be something you have already tried but I will tell you regardless. Go into your controll pannel and click on your mouse. it will open the properties. Unedr touch pad tab make sure Tap off when typing box is checked. Thn under the Pointer Options tab make sure the Hide pointer while typing option is checked. The disabling of the tap will keep the mouse from clicking on other things while you type and the hide will make it so you don't see the mose while typing. This should make things a bit better for you. hope it helps you out.
