Question about Maytag Heating & Cooling

Fan Stops blowing air

My Maytag air conditioner won't blow out any air. If I turn it to the fan only position, it sounds like it wants to start up (a little hum) and if I turn it to slow/medium/high cool (ac) that starts up fine, you can hear it, but no fan to blow it out. Is there anything that can be done?

Yes this is a window unit, fairly large one too. I was suspected that the fan is stuck but I wanted to ask before I attempt to repair it, as I've never serviced an air conditioner before, I don't know where the fan is located, so taking off the front from inside the room or going outside and taking off the top. Its like this model here:

I can't find the exact model # I have, I've misplaced the manual and havn't taken a look on the back of it, all I can read on the front is a little gold Diamond logo on the top right and it has two dials, left one for fan/cooling and right one for temp, no remote and also a slider for open or closed vent. I believe its 15,000btu, paid around $600 I think it was at home depot 6 years ago. I have a good knowledge of electronics, I've been working with car audio installations for over 10 years and also work on some house electrical installs, so I won't have a problem testing components, but as I havn't seen the inside of an air conditioner, would you start with the front off or work outside on removing the top/back casing? I won't be able to remove it from the window for awhile as its extremely heavy and don't have the help to remove it, so I have those options. The switch I'm sure is fine as it sounds like the fan wants to start up but is stuck, this happens in all 3 fan speeds, even all 3 cooling.

    Thanks for the help.

Isthis a window unit? It sounds like it. There could be a problem with your fan switch or the fan motor itself? Multi-speed motors can lose one speed at a time. It really sounds like the fan motor is bad. If the compressor starts in the cool mode, and the fan doesn't, the fan motor could be locked up. See, if you can spin the motor by hand? If you can, then something is bad within the motor. Now, if the motor has a capacitor, check for a loose or burned wire. Good luck.

Maytag air conditioner turns on but fan does not blow. When I put the unit to fan only, I hear the hum of the fan, but no air coming out.

Either the capcitor has gone bad for the fan motor or the motor has siezed up or gone bad... you cold try to replace the cap. first and move on from there....

Hampton air conditioner. When I turn it on it blows out cold air but after about an hour the blowing stops.

Check your control setting if it is an electronic one. Check thermostat / thermistor. If the fan stops check the fan relay. Could be controller problem also. Take assistance from service provider.

Ac doesent blow air

If the fan is not working, then the fan motor is bad,or the start capacitor is bad.Pull the unit out so you can work on it,near the plug in.Be carefull, and use a stick, backscratcher,or something like that.Turn the ac on to cool, high blower, and turn the fan bladeclockwise to see if it will try to start turning on it`s own.Careful not to gouge the coils, and try to turn the fan reall good.If it starts, let it run,for about 15 minutes. If the fan, does not quit, then replace the start capacitor. If the fan wont start turning on it`s own,or the fan stops after a while, replace the fan motor.I hope this was some help.

Blows cold but shuts down no freeze up

Check the capacitor. It should be a dual capacitor , runs both compressor and fan. This sounds like your problem only because both the compressor and the fan go out together. Good Luck Hope I helped

I have a sunbeam 12000 btu window unit air conditioner. I can't seem to change the fan speed when it is in cool mode. When I put it on fan only it blows extremely cold air and i can change the fan speed. ...

Sounds like the switch is wired wrong.
When you put the switch on fan only the compressor should not run at all, therefore their shouldn't be any cold air.
Check the switch to see if it's wired right.

AC Fan doesn't blow cold air, frozen coil noticed outside, resetting power resolves temporarily

You need to call a reputable service technician.  The freezing up usually is associated with a low refrigerant charge or low air flow.  Check your return air filter and replace as needed.

Is the fan blowing. If so your compressor is probably the source. If the fan isn't blowing you might have a bad fan motor
