problem is same as everyone elses, get commuication error - all of a sudden after working fine for 7 months, fed up. Will find reciept and ask garmin to exchange... tried your suggestions about deleting courses, runs etc but makes no difference.

My Garmin Forerunner 305 was working fine until today. Got home from a ten mile run and when I tried to upload, I get an error that says "There is a problem communicating with your devise. Please check the connection and try again." There's nothing wrong with the connection - it's charging fine. I've disconnected and reconnected, wiped down the back of the watch - still get the same error. Extremely Frustrating!

There was a problem while communicating with your device.

Please make sure it is connected to the computer, then try again.

Well it is connected it just won't work!

I tried updating the Training Center For Windows software using this link:

Now it says "There is a problem with the Product Big Sur installation. Please re-install Product Big Sur and start Garmin Training Center(r) again."

I tried removing and reinstalling training center and got the same thing.

I do not know what "Product Big Sur" is.

I have used the website and that continues to work.

Same problem. Error message says: Problem communicating with your device, Please make sure it is connected and try again.

I have tried everything. Any fixes?

I also have the same problem. Message says  "Problem communicating with your device, Please make sure it is connected and try again."

I've tried it all.  Even went between two different computers; one Mac, one PC.

    Need help.

For Pc users:

Go to Garmin website Updates & Downloads, Training Centre for Windows software version 3.4.1, click on download.

I previously deleted all saved couses on Training Centre, but don't know if this is relevant.

Mine won't download workout to computer for a while now. It comes up with a bunch of gibberish and asks you to copy the error to clip board and e-mail it to tech support. Well I did that twice and never heard back. I also called twice but the reponse time is very slow - over 15 minutes. When I finally got someone they said they would have to transfer me to someone who handles software issues and it would be another 20 minute wait. Geezzz. Can anybody help? Even when I reinstalled I still got the error. I am using Windows XP. JB

Missing training data from my Garmin 305....

Unless you created a "back up file" with the Training Center software unfortunatly you will not be able to retrieve the data.

Regular back ups will insure you do not lose information in the future.

To back up your data in the Training Center go to "File" and "Back up" I believe the early version of the Training Center did not have the Back up feature so you would then need to use the "File" Export" option.

I have a new Forerunner 305 and it transfered my first workout to the computer but will no longer do so. The device says "Transfer Complete" however the computer states "There was a problem communicating...

I've just experienced a similar issue for the first time since owning my Garmin 305 Forerunner. Slight difference in my circumstance is that the device itself doesn't show the activity in its history, despite having displayed apparently accurate readings during the activity iteself. Bizarre isuee, and although it's my first issue with this otherwise great device, it does destroy your faith in the unit.

Garmin Forerunner 305 usb cable won't be read

The problem is probably not with the USB cable if the GPS wont even turn on. The older firmware of the Forerunner 205 and 305 have a problem with locking up. This causes the Forerunner to look completely dead. There is a reset procedure: push the mode and reset button at the same time and then let go and hit the power on button. If it powers on that is the problem. Go to the Garmin site and load the newest rev. of firmware into the Forerunner. Fixed mine and a few friends with the same problem.

I do however have a cable problem. Sometimes my PC will come up with unrecognized USB device and my 305 wont talk to the PC, it does charge. It is the cable or dock for sure, because I have tried a different cable/dock and the 305 has no problem. This is the reason I ended up here. I hope the lock fix works for those with the above problem.
