Make sure your computer is off. try resetting the CMOS look on your motherboard and find what looks like a big watch battery about the size of a nickle take that out and leave it out for about 30 minutes and put it back in, that will reset BIOS back to default settings this should solve the problem if it doesn't you have problems elsewhere
Do you mean the desktop is shown and then it freezes-meaning the things (folders etc) doesn't load? If so, you can try the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC button to show task manager where u can open run and type explorer to show the desktop folders and icons. But, this is caused by virus so be sure to clear it off.
i think the only solution is to find a vista installation disk then you run a repair installation as this will just repair your system files for windows to be stable coz it shows that you installation is not stable
