Wireless connection I have an Orange router, a belkin wirelss card (802.11g) and my computer runs win xp ser pack 3. When I switch the computer on it appears to log onto the router - the symbols say i'm connected but windows acts as if I'm not - I have to right clik the connection icon and then click on repair. After that it usually works although sometimes I have to clear my IP from the router before windows can renew my IP and connect.

I typed msc config into the run command and unticked the box that disables wireless zero (under the start tab). This requires a restart to take effect. I then unticked the 'let this utility manage the connection' box in the belkin utility and then started wireless zero. Windows then picked up the wireless connection and let me connect - no more problems. I also found there were some problems with signal levels but a small relocation of the router solved that one too.

If you want to use Windows Wireless Zero Configuration to manage the wireless network, you will need to have Windows XP with service pack 2 as a minimum.

With Windows XP and SP2, you will need a Microsoft update for WPA2 that can be obtained from:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893357/en-us

After installation you will need to use the Windows Zero Config wireless configuration in the control panel to configure the adapter. WPA2 should now be available and work correctly.

Windows XP with Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista offer support for WPA2 without additional updates.

I cannot connect unless unsecured. Will not connect in WPA-2 mode.I have tried Belkin and now Linksys. Could any of Microsoft Security updates be the problem? I have security pack 3,Win XP Pro.

Are you certain your Wireless router and laptop both support WPA-2 Mode. If one does not you are out of luck. You will need an updated router or a newer wifi card for laptop. if both support the feature call the router manufacturer for assistance. Most usually have free tech support...if still under warranty.

Can not change the wireless channel

A very good question!
I'd love to answer this. Belkin utility at times has some bugs. As you said you have downloaded the latest version of drivers and utility. Latest drivers are good but utility will not be of much use, I, as a technician would highly recommend that you use Wireless Zero Configuration in case of Win XP or WLAN Auto-config in case in case of Win Vista or Win 7. But if you have older versions of Windows, older than Win XP, only then utility has to be used. Enable WZC and WLAN A-C in Microsoft Services(Local) page.

Start > Run > services.msc > Ok > Services (Local) > Start the service.

At worst instances, if you are forced to use the utility, remove all SSID (wireless network names) from My Connections. Note: Remove all of them completely.

Also, i would recommend that you configure your wireless mode to be "802.11g only" on the router as F5D7001 is a 802.11g standard PCI card, and also turn ON the wireless PROTECTED MODE on the router. This will enhance the performance of your wireless devices in cases of heavy wireless traffic.

This is sure to work! Again, thanks for such a question.

Modem router light blinking (no wireless connection) F5D8631-4

Try restoring the Belkin back to the factory default by powering up the Belkin and pressing the RESET button on the back of the Belkin for 7 secs. Then connect a LAN cable from the computer to the Belkin, open IE browser and type the configuration IP address and configure the wireless settings ie. SSID, encryption etc. The computer wireless cards will need to be configured with the Belkin wireless settings to allow them to communicate with the Belkin.

Belkin Nimo wireless router internet drop outs

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? Ie. change the default password, setup encryption use WAP2 or WAP, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, ard welders, washing machines etc. If so the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) .
4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize the interference with your wireless router from the wireless routers and access points in your area.

I have a different laptop and I can't seem to get this one to pick up the wireless connection. It is a wireless laptop. XP is loaded on it. My Belkin router is . We had a password on it but had to take it...

1. please chk if you might have a wireless switch to enable wireless in your laptop 2. Let your computer scan for wirelss networks and see if you can see the network in the list. 3. If you dont see it in the list, go closer to the router so the signals are better 4.If you still dont see it, try to reboot the router once. 5. If you see it and not connecting, please chk if you have a mac address filtering on the router. this is probably not letting you in now.
Hope this helps Ranjit

Problem with downloading router driver/firmware

You don't need software for the router. Is your wireless encrypted or open? Just view avaiable networks with your xp machine and choose your network to connect to. If you do have an encrypted signal use the vista machine and type in the ip address to the router in your browser window. I think belkins router ip is 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 Hope this helps, let me know

Security of wireless network

You can directly connect your computer to the router thorugh the routers "internet" port and then re-run setup. OR you can type the IP address of the router into your address bar (the default is tipically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and then enter the router username and password (I believe the Belkin default is username:"Admin" password:"Password") in the admin control planel look for a "wireless security" tab. You can then define your wirelss security settings there. Just remember to configre the same settings on all devices that will connect to the router.

Wireless connection

Go to your PC.

Start --> Run -- > cmd -->ipconfig. Chk the ip address in the default gateway. From ur laptop. chk if you can ping that ip. To ping -- Start --> Run --> cmd -- > ping xxx.xxx.xx.x.

If you cant ping it, just means there is no communicaition betwen the router and the computer. Meanwhile, make sure that the laptop is close enough to the router and you have a good signal strength.
