Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick Logo
Anonymous Posted on May 18, 2008

The Software I just bought a Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick at a garage sale for so cheap it wasn't funny. I'm fairly certain it has some problem but until I can find the software for the thing I can't check it out. The microsoft website, oddly enough, has the software for the original force feedback stick that is for win 95/98. But there is no sign of the software for the new stick. Where can I get this software?

I picked up a Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick at a thrift store. I was having the same problem getting the joystick working on XP Pro. XP wasn't seeing the joystick. On a wim I tryed the Sidewinder on my Dell laptop (OS 98se) and it worked fine. I then pluged it back into the desktop sys (OS XP Pro). Now the Sidewinder works 100% fine. I just used the joystick with MicroSoft Flight Simulator 2004 A Century of Flight. All controls and buttons are working fine. I also delibertely bunny hoped the plane on landing, crashed the plane and ran the plane into a building to test the force feedback on the yoke. The feedback is fine also.

Have microsoft sidewinder force feedback pro with 9 pin connecter.need usb adapter

You have the old game port connector. I have one of those too and researched it and even bought one of the adapters. What I found is that the adapters will generally work EXCEPT if your unit has force feedback. The force feedback versions of the MS sticks uses a special protocol that the adapters can't handle. I haven't looked recently, but if you look for an adapter make sure it says it will support force feedback (most will say they don't). In my case I just bought a new joystick.

Microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 joystick

Well, I just noticed this exactly same problem with my new PC, so i try it with my older PC and it works fine, I´m not sure if this has something to do with the USB 2.0 or the driver, but i was not able to find the version 5.X for it, microsoft page only has the version 3.2.

the extrage part is that both PCs are using the same version of WXP.

Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick

I have the same problem - have lost all stick forces (everything else works fine) and the Forces self test that can be run from the original CD software says there is no electrical power. Have changed the fuse etc. but problem remains. I think something inside the device hardware is bust. Like you I cannot find anything on the Internet as to how or where the device can be repaired!
