Focusing

my nikon coolpix 5700 is not focusing.on looking through the viewfinder all you can see is alot of black and white horizontal lines.this was an intermittant problem,but has now become more permanent.i've tried resetting etc but it has not worked.the playback functions etc are all fine,have you any ideas please

camera has not been dropped,in fact taken great care of and kept in case when not in use.
This Problem has been added to the Share Your Expertise Page under "My Work Queue".

Does the camera was dropped? or to muck squees the parts inside have only small clearance , need to take care .
