GuruFind the Brand Name and Model Number of your sound card, then do a Google search using the following string:
(Brand Name) (Model Number) +driver
This should bring up a list of sites that have drivers to download. You may find there a Windows 98 Driver for the sound card.
Compaq does not list one, but the manufacturer might.
