How to log in

A "log in" typically requires a user name to be entered, then you press tab. (The user name is NOT case sensitive, by the way, i.e. SAM and sam and sAm will all be acceptable if any one of this is your user name.) This takes you to the password dialogue box. You enter the password which is case sensitive. Then you press ENTER or you click "sign in." Your user name works, of course, only if you have a "user account." On home PCs, if there is simply a single user account for which no password was ever made, you simply boot the computer and anyone sitting there has access as well as administrative rights to switch around settings, even though neither you nor they are in the official administrative account, which is separate from the users account. If you want to sign in as Administrator, you must go to the administrative account rather than just powering up. You can find access accounts via the Control Panel.

If you do choose to setup a password, you want to record it somewhere off of the computer.

Can't unlock

Hi,

This is only possible is you are using Windows XP. If your operating system is windows Xp, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn on your laptop and allow it get to the stage where is will ask for user/log password
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del your keyboard.
  3. A user name and password prompt will pop up.
  4. On the user name type in "administrator
  5. On the password, type in "administrator"
  6. and you windows will open, go to control panel from there to change the password.
That's all. In other words, the user name and password is administrator.

But in the case of windows Vista, you will have to re-run windows operating system, because vista security is very tight and it is difficult to break into its password.

I can not get my password to work

Assuming you have Windows XP or Vista and you mean the windows log on password, if there is another user account with administrator privileges you can log in at this account, and go through settings - control panel - user accounts in order to change the password for your account.
If there isn't another user account with administrator privileges, you have to download the utility (in zip format) from this link. Extract it and burn the included iso at a cd. Boot the pc from the cd and follow the on screen steps in order to reset password.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

I forgot my adminastor password

Elevate a secondary account outside of the admin account to admin status, then login as it and change your admin password. If you don't have a secondary user account, you can create one (and elevate it to admin status) by running the following from the command line:

net user "useraccount" "password" /add
net localgroup administrators "your pc's name"\"useraccount" /add

Of course, remove the quotations and insert the user account name, your pc's name, and the password where those words show up. That should allow you to get into Windows with admin privelages and change the administrator password. I do it through the "manage" function by right clicking on My Computer. Then go to Local Users and Groups, fo to the users folder, right click on your administrator account and hit "Set password". Hope this helps!

I have forgotten the password that i used when opening my account. please assist. thank you phill rogers

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but I’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password
You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:
1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.
Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

While tring to install a printer, a sign poped up saying we needed an administrator.

Log off the computer or restart the computer and login with administrator account and password to install it successfully.

If you don't have an administarator account then reboot the system in safe mode and login with administrator account and make a account which has admin rights.

An administrator account user can only install the printer drivers or software.
