Recently my notebook has had this problem where it loads up and says windows did not start properly. i then gives me the choices of safe mode to starting normal. Whichever when i choose it proceeds to go to the normal windows sign in. It suddenly blacks out and occasionally shows a blue screen which I can not read. then it begins the cycle again. Any tip?

Without knowing what the blue screen says the only suggestion I can make is to load the Windows XP cd when prompted hit the R key to enter the recovery console. When your at the command prompt type chkdsk /r it will take about an hour. Hopefully that will fix it.
