No audio after updating firmware ver3.32 - Magellan RoadMate 700 GPS Receiver

    Quick comment on the solution

    1. My screen indeed locked at first as covered in the last step, so expect that to happen. Don't worry if you never get to do step 5 and 6. Connecting the USB, deleting the SND file and restarting it works and the sound is back even without the file there.

    2. This only fixes the Female voice along with the beeps and clicks. The unit goes silent again if you select the male voice but switching back to the female fixed that. I assume "_F" in the file name must mean female.

    3. It seems to be missing "Keep to the Right/Left" voice directions.

    4. The display still shows "ARDEJ...." or something like that instead of the word Exit or Entrance when exiting or entering the freeway. Voice is fine though. Anyone got a fix for that?

(This soultion copied from another post worked for me.)

RM 700 lost sound after updating to ver 3.32 from Magellan website. Below is solution that works for my RM 700.

1. Search for the file ENG_F.SND sound on google or yahoo or any search engine.

2. Connect RM 700 to PC, and create folder name SOUND_EU on RM 700.

3. Copy the ENG_F.SND to SOUND_EU folder.

4. Disconnect RM 700 from PC.

5. Turn on RM 700, and go to Option, configuration, language, and choose English.

6. RM 700 will load sound file and turn off.

7. Turn on RM 700, if it keeps showing the initial screen, then connect the RM 700 to PC, and DELETE the ENG_F.SND from SOUND_EU. It should be OK after you disconnect RM 700 from PC and turn it on again.

GOOD LUCK!

DO YOU NEED TO UPDATE OR WILL IT STILL WORK?

Most updates fall into 2 categories: a) Firmware update. Corrects a problem(s) found in the firmware since the previous version that may provide more reliable operation, additional features, removal of features or other changes the manufacturer wants, and b) Maps update. Updates the installed maps.

In the case of "a" above, many times there is an explanation of the firmware update. Longer battery life, faster time to fix, additional bluetooth cellphone support, etc. It is best to review the list of changes to see if you want to upgrade or not.

In the case for "b", streets change, close and new ones pop up all the time. Using the latest maps will minimize the chance the you'll be sent over a road that either no longer exists, or has been rerouted to somewhere else. A map update may also rely on updated firmware (in "a") or might even automatically update firmware during the process.

Generally, updates almost always solve more problems than they create and add features rather than strip them. Map updates are nice to have - but you may need to balance the need for them with the cost of them. Not performing an update should not make the unit fail to work; unless there is something happening on a much larger scale than just your particular brand / model.

I hope this helps & good luck. Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Lost audio capability

There is a gps repair guide that show you how to disassemble the gps. is the audio jack loose? if so i can trick the gps into thinking that a headphone is plugged in and disable the sound. otherwise try firmware update.

Garmani nuvi 780 freezes on "updating bluetooth firmware 0%" when turned on

Worked for me but not sure why, I had the same problem of freezing when updating Bluetooth firmware on a Nuvi 770. I chose to reset all user data (press lower tight hand of touch screen while powering on) and next reboot it updated firmware sucesfully. No idea why this worked.

Voice is dragging

Common problem. A friend's is giving him the silent treatment. Of all the reading I've done, it's related to a corrupted audio file. A reinstall of the system might help but a software update or firmware update most likely would provide a fix.

Lost sound and audio after updating the firmware

I have the same loss of audio problem on my brand new 700. It went out briefly BEFORE I downloaded the firmware 3.32. It came back later, first with the second user setting, then it returned across the board. So I knew there was a little intermittent bug in there.

Now, with the Vers. 3.32 firmware downloaded, the sound never came back, and it seems that it is not coming back at all so far, and I've tried powering it off and on again several times with the 12v as well as the AC adaptor cord. Still looking for a secret menu on that.
