Question about Equator EZ 1612 V Front Load Washer / Dryer
I can't understand why they would design and manufacture the door handles of 2 small tabs of plastic but they did. And now my handle sits on the floor next the washer, and my laundry inside. What to do?

I order mine online from appliancedesk.com. I have one ordered now. It is on backorder. When you install new, be sure to mark position of door inserts, just in case they separate and you have to figure out how to reposition them.

SOURCE: broken door handle...
I have the same problem and I have a makeshift solution which I was able to do in 45 minutes and total cost was less than $1.
Step 1: Remove door from machine.
Step 2: Disassemble door with the two plastic donut shells. This means removing 6 or so flathead screws. Take care to note alignment of glass parts because they aren't perfect circles and only fit one way.
Step 3: Pull out pin that threads the spring and broken plastic handle remnant and metal latch piece.
Step 4: Discard broken plastic and replace the rest of the apparatus. The metal latch can move up and down, but that's ok.
Step 5: Purchase a paint-can opener:
Step 6: Re-attach door.
Step 7: You can use the paint-can opener to the right of the latch to lever-open and lever close the latch in order to open and close the door.
Cheap, easy. Not pretty at all. Definitely something your friends would make fun of you for doing, but it saves you $1,000 of a new machine, in this economy.

Yes, follow the above instructions to open the washer. It happened to me last night. The machine was still locked and when I went to open it, the handle just broke off. You have to push the part in (where the plastic handle was) and use a screw driver to pull open the door (simultaneously). I was able to find a company in Toronto/Mississauga called Rapid Service who carry the parts and provide service for this machine. The door handle costs $55 and can be installed by yourself (at least if you are even slightly handy). I hope this helps others who come across this problem!
