Dyson DC 14 animal bagless--unable to use wand

My DC 14 animal (purchased 2-26-05) has begun to make a lugging noise sometimes when I turn it off. It normally has great suction, but when using the wand, it sounds normal for just a few seconds, then sounds like the air intake plugs up, and it loses suction. The filter is clean, and I’ve checked to assure that passages aren’t blocked. The trained technician at Dyson thought it could be the clutch or the motor. What do you think?

Hi.

Try these tests & tell me the results.

Remove the hose & wand completely from the machine it unclips at the bottom of the back.

Leave handle in full upright position & switch on do you still get the sound of something blocked ?

If yes remove the (U) shaped inspection port again at bottom back of machine now repeat last test what happens ?

Please reply with your answers.

If you're having difficulty removing the wand from the machine, this may be because the hose was twisted when the wand was last replaced on the machine after use. This is simple to resolve following the steps shown in the video attached.

Cannot get the hose from the uprightdc25

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If you're unable to remove the hose and wand from your DC25, it's likely the hose was twisted when the wand was last replaced on the machine after use - this can prevent the wand from extending correctly. It's easily resolved by following the steps shown in the video attached.

I hope this helps, but if you'd like further advice after you've given this a try, please give the Dyson customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 01-475-7109 (IE), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Why wont the wand pull out from my Dyson DC 14?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties removing the wand from your DC14. The unusual resistance may be due to a blockage in the hose or U-bend jamming the wand in place. To check everything is correct with your machine, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=666&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

If you've checked the U-bend is free of blockages but are still unable to remove the wand, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so we can provide further assistance to help you resolve this.

Kind regards,

Jack

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

For the full diagnostics, check out the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com or call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards
Darran

I have the dc 17 animal model and there are no instructions in how to use the attachments, how they connect and so on.I have to assume that this is not an uncommon question considering that the box was...

You can call the Dyson helpline for information on how to fit the attachments. Generally, you can fit them on the wand and the hose (wand - directly on top of the red piece of plastic, hose - take the wand off the back of the vac and press the red button where the hose connects to the wand - this will remove the wand and you can attach the tools to the hose). With a DC17 Animal you probably have a Mini Turbine Head (a tool with its own brushbar - greay with red bristles) - if you have a gray button on it this is probably making you ask how it attaches to your vac - this tool is actually compatible with many other Dyson models but in your case it just fits on top of the hose and/or wand - it doesn't click into anything. As long as the fit is tight/snug, you're good.

HOW DO I RELEASE THE WAND ON THE DYSON DC 17?

It's sometimes hard to remember which of these models is which! You should have the machine in the upright position, then I think all you have to do is grasp the top of the wand and just pull it upwards. I hope this helps.
