Question about Logitech Harmony 550 Remote Control
Well, I finally put together what worked for me:
1) pull a battery.
2) hold the power button down when you replace the battery - this should FINALLY get 'sefe mode' to show up on the remote
3) update remote
You may need to keep the battery our of the remote for 1 hour or so.
You may need to do this multiple times.
You may need to press power - OK - 0 <zero> at the same time before you do this (This is only if all else fails and you are really desparate and want to try anything. Try it with the batteries in only, Try it with the batteries out and hold all three down while you plug in the USB cable).
I did these various steps multiple times and it finally worked. Trye the 3 steps top down and then with each of the alternatives a couple of times for each alternative.
Use the 'Power' - 'OK' - '0' sequence as a VERY LAST resort - this really messes with the remote and may cause it to get worse and require you to do the steps many times before it finally works.

Just thought I'd say that I have the same problem and called support like Appollostees post suggested.They are shipping me out a new remote. Should be here in a few days. So, I agree that they really do have good customer support!

Found a solution!!! Hooray!!
Simply call Logitech, and they will send you out a replacement remote. Done.
I thought it would be a huge hassle, but most of us are already registered if you setup the CD and made a user name and password.
The guy acted like he had heard this issue a thousand time before. (Just my opinion, but, I think these screens are wearing out because of the "Try Me" feature on the package which let's shoppers play with the screen before buying it. This is bound to wear out the screen.)
He took me through some basic steps to update the remotes firmware. However, when that didn't work he simply gave me a reference number, and shipped out a BRAND NEW, (not refurbished) remote.
I talked to the guy on Mon. 6/3/08, I had a new remote at my doorstep on Fri. 6/6/08. They shipped it air freight. Logitech has a made a devoted customer out of me.
