Question about Logitech Harmony 550 Remote Control

Blank LCD Hey Jmiles - question...remote working fine, then all the sudden, LCD screen lights, but blank. Replaced batteries and updated firmware, but no change. What causes this and how di I fix this? Thank you.

    Exact same problem. The remote works fine also, I know because I can enter commands from memory. However, I cant see a thing.

Well, I finally put together what worked for me:

1) pull a battery.
2) hold the power button down when you replace the battery - this should FINALLY get 'sefe mode' to show up on the remote
3) update remote

You may need to keep the battery our of the remote for 1 hour or so.
You may need to do this multiple times.
You may need to press power - OK - 0 <zero> at the same time before you do this (This is only if all else fails and you are really desparate and want to try anything. Try it with the batteries in only, Try it with the batteries out and hold all three down while you plug in the USB cable).

I did these various steps multiple times and it finally worked. Trye the 3 steps top down and then with each of the alternatives a couple of times for each alternative.
Use the 'Power' - 'OK' - '0' sequence as a VERY LAST resort - this really messes with the remote and may cause it to get worse and require you to do the steps many times before it finally works.

Just thought I'd say that I have the same problem and called support like Appollostees post suggested.They are shipping me out a new remote. Should be here in a few days. So, I agree that they really do have good customer support!

Found a solution!!! Hooray!!
Simply call Logitech, and they will send you out a replacement remote. Done.

I thought it would be a huge hassle, but most of us are already registered if you setup the CD and made a user name and password.

The guy acted like he had heard this issue a thousand time before. (Just my opinion, but, I think these screens are wearing out because of the "Try Me" feature on the package which let's shoppers play with the screen before buying it. This is bound to wear out the screen.)

He took me through some basic steps to update the remotes firmware. However, when that didn't work he simply gave me a reference number, and shipped out a BRAND NEW, (not refurbished) remote.

I talked to the guy on Mon. 6/3/08, I had a new remote at my doorstep on Fri. 6/6/08. They shipped it air freight. Logitech has a made a devoted customer out of me.

I purchased a Harmony 520 remote back in Feb./March. I registered it online and I have perfomed all of the updates. The display and backlighting quit working. What do I need to do about this and is covered...

The display box does not show any characters. It is completely blank but the remote still works fine.

My display screen is blank


I had this same problem, so I contacted logitech... This is there response:
Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony Remote

We are sorry to hear that you have experienced some difficulties with your Harmony remote. Please try taking out the battery of the remote and wait 10 seconds, then put the battery back in the Harmony Remote and check if you still have problems with the LCD of the Harmony. It is possible a firmware upgrade in Safe Mode will resolve the issue. Please update the firmware on the remote and then re-update the configuration to the remote. To do so see below:

Try placing the remote into "Safe Mode". If you are not able to do this please continue to the next section.
1. Remove the battery from the remote.
2. Hold down the "Off" button on the remote and re-insert the battery.
3. Continue holding the "Off" button until the remote says "Safe Mode" 
4. Plug the remote into the USB cable.

Update the firmware on the remote.
1. Login to your account through the Harmony remote software.
2. Click 'Downloads' and then select 'Firmware'
3. Follow the prompts to upgrade the firmware on the remote.
* Please note continue the Firmware upgrade process even if the software says you already have the latest firmware

Once you are finish, please update the remote with the configuration on the account by Clicking update remote. If this does not resolve the difficulties you are experiencing with the LCD screen of your remote then please respond with the following information so we can forward the case over to our Warranty & Repairs Department:


This made my remote screen useful for slightly more than two hours... So I e-mailed the warranty dept. and they sent a refurbished remote right away.

LCD Screen is blank


Had the same thing:
Step 1 - remove the battery for about 60 minutes. There seems to be a little energy store in the unit and just taking out the battery, counting to 10, and reinstalling it does not work.

Step 2- Do a software update upgrade from the Logitech site. The new firmware level seems to have fixed the base problem.

If you just take the battery out and put it in, it does not work.
If you take the battery out and just hook it up to do a software upgrade, it does not work becuase the remote gets power from the USB commenction so it remains "hung"

The most disturbing thing about the whole event for me was the number of people that had the problem occur about 12 months and 1 day after purchase....ie when it was out of warranty!!!
