my camera did the same thing. I took the card out(it seems a part was broke holding the card in) I did not use the camera for several months & now it seems the internal memory is working

I have the same issue with an HP Photosmart M527. I've tried several different brands of SD cards with capacities from 512 to 2G with the same result. First the camera says "Wrong Format, would you like to reformat?" When you click "yes", it says "Cannot reformat". The camera works fine with it's internal memory but not with a card.

I had the same problem with an HP R817 when I used an ultrafast sd card init - it killed the card!
Now I only buy standardsd cards and reformat - only wipe the files on the card and not reformat it!
Works OK upto 4gb so far!

Hope this helps someone!

Not a solution, but after corresponding with HP customer service, they concluded that the problem with my M527 (see above) cannot be fixed. They offered to replace it with the same two-year old model for $99.99 which is much more than that model camera would be worth. I declined their offer.

Hello Mr rtautwein .
  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

    Hello,

This is Vikram Kumar Thumu from India-Hyderabad. I have seen your message on the issue related to the Error message stating that Wrong Format. I would like to provide my suggestions on the issue.  I hope that this should work and will resolve the issue for  you.

If this is exact error message then try :

"CARD HAS WRONG FORMAT. Press OK to format card. "

Possible cause is : The memory card is formatted for a different device such as an MP3 player.

Solution : Reformat the memory card (remove the card from the camera if you do not want it to be reformatted).

I hope that this should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists then you can take help of HP Chat Support.
