Garmin GPS 40 will not

Garmin GPS 40 will not acquire satellites. It just keeps searching the sky indefinately. Have let it sit for several hours. Tried uploading an almanac that I downloaded from a GPS 45. Still no help. Saw one comment about reprogramming it because satellites were relocated in 2000. Don't know what reprogramming that would be.
