It's possible that the BIOS setup has been accidentally set to non ACPI mode. Check in the setup to ensure ACPI is enabled.

Other possible causes that have been - memory expansion, overclocking and incompatible driver software. Check out what you have recently installed or updated on your computer.

I received a message that said my system was not ACPI compliant. I have no idea what that message is talking about. Can you help?

Whatever your doing, is not compatible with the current BIOS standard which in today's computer world is ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Poer Interface) post Windows 2000. Older BIOS systems versions used APM (Advanced Power Management). You must be trying to put in different hardware or something on your motherboard (computer) that is not compatible or functioning properly.

Dell 8300 not loading xp home with the blue screen of death

To resolve this behavior, contact the manufacturer of your computer to obtain a BIOS that is fully ACPI compliant.

To work around this behavior, manually install the Standard PC hardware abstraction layer (HAL):
  1. Restart the computer to restart Setup.
  2. When Setup starts again, press F7 (not F6) when you see the "Press F6 if you need to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver" screen.
Windows automatically disables the installation of the ACPI HAL and installs the Standard PC HAL.

I need to disable tha acpi on an acer travelmate 529tx but i don't know how to do it. i am trying to install xp after a failure. i get bsod and says to press f7 when i install storage drivers but i need a...

I have seen on many forums that ACPI makes a lot of troubles to a lot of users under Windows. I will try to explain several things about ACPI and I hope that you will be able to solve your problems after you read this article. I cover only most encountered issues, but always there is a choice even if it's called ACPI disable.:)
The computer ACPI support is detected in the setup stage, but there are less frequent cases when ACPI is not detected and the Standard PC HAL is installed. If you want to force the installation of the ACPI HAL:
1. At the blue screen of the Windows XP setup when it prompts you to press F6 for additional mass storage devices press F5 and you will have a list of options.
2. Choose the proper HAL for your machine remembering that there are also different HALs for multiprocessor machines.
3. Complete the setup, go to Setup / Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / Computer. If you have listed the Advanced configuration and Power Management (ACPI) the process was completed successfully.
Warning: You can do the same thing if you don't want to install ACPI and your BIOS doesn't support ACPI disable setting. Just choose the Standard Computer HAL from the list of options.
Another method to disable ACPI is:
  • wait for the text-phase of XP setup to complete
  • before XP Setup Wizard to load, boot into DOS and change ACPIEnable = 0 from ACPIEnable = 1 in file c:\txtsetup.sif
The reason why ACPI is not installed on a computer with known ACPI compatibility may be a Microsoft known subtle incompatibility which can lead to hardware instability. In the installation step Windows XP checks the BIOS compatibility with ACPI and the BIOS presence on a known bad list. If the BIOS is there ACPI is not installed. Of course than errors can occur so you can force the ACPI installation (not recommended).

Try disabling it in the BIOS first, this can not be done on a computer with the operating system already installed as it will cause the machine to stop. MUST be done when you initially install the OPERATING SYSTEM.
Regards.

Acpi bios

Hi suleman_indi, I'm guessing you have a question about the D845GVSR motherboard. If your question refers to the bios setting for ACPI. Disable it until windows has been updated to SP2. Enter your bios & enable the ACPI. Should be fine once windows has been updated. Click on this link to load Intel's site for the Intel D845GVSR motherboard.

Problem istalling windows 2000 professional on a pc with intel d945gcnl motherboard

try to make bios settings default and make a proper installation

The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updated bios. If you are unable to obtain an updated bios or the latest bios supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation."
