Just bought 2009 North american map update but when software tries to load an error message pops up after the second screen indicating "there was a problem communicating with the Garman device Nuvi (E:/). Communication with the device may continue with reduced functionality. Please contact Garmin customer support for assistance."
Any suggestions? I get this same message on both my laptop and desktop computers running Windows XP.

anyone identify way around this problem? One site said to reboot the GPS and go thru preboot phase, then plug back in. writer said worked for him. I tried but that didn't work either. Have manually downloaded drivers also.

Problem appears to be that Windows XP is recognizing the Nuvi 350 as a mass storage device and using that driver, not the garmin driver. When I try to manually update the drivers the add hardware wizard declares that the garmin driver is not a valid driver for that type of device.
