Question about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console

Anyone replaced the Slim analog before?

I bought a replacement analog joystick for my PSP Slim, but I can't get it to fit back in! I cannot get the little rubber piece that fits on the connector to fit in between the two circuit boards that you slide the analog connector inside.... The rubber piece sits too high and when I put the analog in, the rubber gets knocked off.... Has anyone replaced the analog on the slim that can tell me how they got it in, I'm getting frustrated!!! TIA....

You are risking to damage your psp using the wrong part, if you want to proceed in this way cut the rubber with a cutter. My main suggestion is buying right controller for your psp.

How to Replace Analog Joystick on PSP-2001

If your PSP's joystick won't go in a certain direction -- or characters walk by themselves, this part needs to be replaced. It is sold at the website all the way at the bottom for $16.95 and they can do this repair job for $18 more! However, it's not very difficult. Here are the steps:

Step 1. Open PSP. There are 2 screws on the top of the PSP.

Step 2. There are 4 screws behind the PSP and one on the bottom, as circled in the picture.

Step 3. Remove the faceplate and locate the PSP 2001 Analog Assembly. It is held into the console by 1 black screw, as circled in the picture.

Step 4. Remove the black screw and pry the joystick out of the PSP as shown below.

Step 5. It is important that you remove this clear silicon piece from the old joystick and install it into the new one. Its purpose is to communicate the movement of the joystick from the assembly to the motherboard. It sits between the assembly and the motherboard.

Step 6. After you transfer the piece, pry the motherboard slightly up as you slide the new assembly back in place as pictured.

Step 7. You will need to pry this piece up to slide the assembly into place so that it is seated. Replace the black screw and close it back up.

Analog sticks on the PSP do wear out depending on how heavily you use it, if its been more than a year since purchasing it, then you could buy a psp 2000 joystick from amazon and unscrew the faceplate and unscrew the current analog stick and then replace it.

The analog controller is not moving smoothly

As you have indicated the analog controller is faulty a known issue with PSPs. It is located below the D-Pad. You will have to replace it. Shouldn't be too hard if you have some knowledge of elcectronics. Its a pretty inexpensive repair if you do it yourself and should cost you around 35-50$(Depending on the quality). My advise is to go for good quality parts as they are more reliable than junk chinese stuff.

Psp analog joystick

thats what happens when you lose the silicone pad with copper connections inside.

another posibility is that you didnt tie the screws hard enough. thatr worked for me.

if you dont tie the hard enough the analog goes to the upper left hand corner. and in the game, the player might walk around in circles, lol

Grinding PSP joystick

you have to replace the joystick. do not use graphite as it will conduct accross the track. You need a thin philips srewdriver to remove 5 srews one under the label that says do not remove label in battery compartment.once all srews are removed cover pops out and its very easy to replace unit. Look on ebay for replacement joystick for SLIM MODEL PSP.

Psp analog stick

If I'm understanding the directions correctly, all you need to do is pull up on the analog cap. It snaps back on so don't be afraid when it comes off. If you lose the cap, i believe they sell replacements for it separately in most Best Buys, Circuit City, etc. They cost like 5 dollars for 3 or something....

After you pull off the cap there should be kind of a small stubby joystick.

Good Luck!
