I have a TI 83 Plus and when I turn it on the answer is really faint...I already tried to darken the screen and there numbers are all over the screen...if the number is 3220 the 32 are in the top line and the 2 is on the next line and so forth...I think its dying and I have no idea why, but I did have a TI 86 before this and right before it died I had the same problems where the screen went really faint and it started malfunctioning. Also, when I press the clear button it is unable to clear to chaos all over the screen...there are other characters which are just showing up on various parts of the screen along with only parts of the numbers showing... basically it looks like partial lines which make up the numbers.
Any advice about how to fix it would be great...thanks for you help.

Could be that the contrast is turned up. Try turning the calculator on and then pressing the 2nd key and hold down the down arrow. This should lighten the screen if there is a contrast problem. You can darken the screen, sam procedure, just use the up arrow. Hope this helps.
