Hi,
f your motor got too hot there is a motorguard switch on there and it has to cool down before it will come back on.check under the vacuum and see if you can turn the brush roller by hand, unplug first.if it turns real freely then the belt is broke.if you can't turn it at all then the brush roller is either jammed or the bearings on the brush roller are froze up.and if thats the case, that will cause your motor to overheat and shut down.if the brush roller and belt are ok then the brushes on the motor might be going bad....

Sentry 3 series vacuum smelled hot, and now will not power up, changed bag (not over full)

There is a reset button on the back of the vacuum that shuts the power off if the motor gets too hot. Try pushing the little white button on the back. If it comes back on that means that there is probably a clog somewhere or the bag was too full.

It starting to put out a hot type smell. I have tried cleaning the filters real well and even tried to see if there was problem with the ozone filter. We have checked and could not find a jam. I know...

Hi,

The hot smell could be from the belt or the motor. Turn it on for a moment, turn it off, then flip it on its side and smell the belt that drives the brush. If that is where the smell is coming from, then your belt is burning up.
FirsYou'll have to replace it. Be sure there is nothing rubbing on it like debris picked up and stuck. But, even if you do find something stuck in it, you'll still have to replace it since it's burning.

If the smell comes from the motor, do not run it anymore. That will have to be serviced.

Can you get a belt? I can look up a place online for you if you need to order one. Just provide your make and model.

I hope this works. If it does, I'd appreciate your vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

I keep replacing the belt and keeps melting and breaks. what do i need to do? everything else is working, the little piece of metal that hooks on the belt gets too hot and melt the belt

i think your talking about the motor spindel,,(the little metal bit?) if the motor is that hot its going to burn out soon, check that the brush is free to turn if its tight free it off its full of grit or fluff also check that the motor turns freely

The little belt inside the head of the vaccum with the beater bar is not always spinning therefor is melting. Is it normal for the metal pin that it is going around on to get really hot?

The Belt should be changed at this point. This will allow for the proper tension to be on the brush between the motor assembly (metal pin) and the brush so that it spins at the proper speed.

Is it "normal" for the metal pin (motor shaft) to get hot.... not normal, however in the problem you have described, yes it is normal for this situation.

Change the belt and your problem should go away.

THe power head on my canister stopped working

depending on what make ... the power head has one or two thermal switches insiide ... the first one detects when the motor gets too hot .. thats almost always caused by "not enough air flow to keep it cool" ... that switch will reset when the motor cools off ... if that thermal switch fails to work and the motor continues to get hot then a perminant thermal fuse trips ... that cant be reset and has to be replaced ... and thats not always easy to do . they are typically crimped or soldered in place within the motor windings .... usually the motor will be replaced on such units ...vacuum motors operate at enormous power levels .. they get very hot very quickly when air flow is cut off .. another posibility is the wires going inside the plug get broken from so mjuch flexing ... you can try pushing the wire into the plug to see if that brings it to life ,,, the wires sometimes break where they go into the motor also . some machines have a little reset button near the motor .. if you have that then push in for a couple of seconds .. it should click when reset .. ..

The top of the vacuum cleaner gets very! hot with little use of hand wand. it is a majestic model with chrome top about 6 years old

the exhaust is from the top so it will normally get pretty hot. If the machine shuts off, then there is a clog, or a full bag. Most of your machine is actually plastic, so examine it closely for warping or any discoloring. Also if it sounds funny you might want to have someone check the motor.

Bissel Little Green Spray Motor

Motor was seized. Probably from lack of use combined with the moisture involved with such a device. I loosened the motor with a pliers, gave it a small shot of wd-40, and off we go. Works fine.

Did you check the brush roll when you changed the belt? The smell of rubber would inducate a belt slipping. So if the brush roll (part #61308-2)isn't turning, the belt would get hot and would be slipping. If the motor sounds real loud, then you could have a bad motor(part #60775-4).
