The screen itself may be damaged. In any case, the set will be exensive to service. If the set is under warranty, it is best to give in the set for service.

With any sophisticated technology, it is possible to have failures. The worlds most expensive cars, aircraft, ships, industrial machinery, computers, and everything that exists will require service at one point. I have some friends that have exhautic cars and they spend a fortune to keep them serviced.

With the Plasma and LCD technology, these are very new and they are still being developed. The turnover of the technology is very high, and therefore the rate of obsolesence is high. In actual fact, if you look at the history of the economic scale including inflation, and what you got for your money 10 years ago, you are getting a great deal.

Actualy, Sony and Panasonic are of the best TV sets on the market today. These are the only two names I would buy in a TV set, and I have been servicing electronic equipment for over 35 years and running service centers. I have serviced many types of electronic equipment, and probably thousands of TV sets. I am presently with a large contract, and working only on industrial and broadcast type television equipment.

Both Sony and Panasonic are world leaders in professional, and broadcast television and production equipment. If you go in to any major broadcast TV station today, you will see mainly those two names. They are also the most supported for service and engineering information.

As for myself, I am thinking about a 50 inch HDTV. I am trying to make up my mind between the Panasonic PZ series and the Sony XBR series. They are both two different TV technologies. This decision is a little difficult. These two TV sets are probably the best possible in the consumer market. Each system has its own pros and cons in the way of performance.

Hi Lucian

This is a common Mainboard failure problem on Projectors.

The unfortunate thing is that this can only be solved by having the part repaired or replaced.

Green lines on my Sony projection

Those are called retrace lines and they are the result of the blanking pulse not having the desired effect. This could denote a problem in the Horizontal section of the TV. In this case the green gun is not being turned off as it goes back to the left side of the screen.
