replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
good luck

MSI G41M-P26 jpwr2? if i disconnect it no power. if i connect it there is a power but no display.

You don't give enough information. You need to decide if motherboard is starting up - and you can hear hard disk(s) running and accessing data, or if everything is totally dead.

If the former the lack of a display could be a fault with your graphics card.

You need to see if the power supply is running, look and see if its fan is going and then listen to see if hard disk motor is running. If these are dead try a replacement Power Supply.
If you get some text or graphics on the screen when you first turn on, and before screen goes blank, that suggests it is running and the blank screen can be due to a software problem.

If you need more help, supply more info about the fault.

  • Check the VGA connections to ensure its well connected.
  • Disconnect everything from power completely.
  • Remove the CMOS battery and disconnect the hard disk's power supply.
  • Leave it as such for a few minutes and then connect everything from scratch including the CMOS battery and the hard disk.
  • Now run the boot set up.

Take out your ram sticks and put them back in. Also disconnect your hard drive and reconnect it. Then restart. If this doesnt help you may have a blown power supply.

Computer is dead. When I press the on button, nothing happens. It is plugged in. I opened it up and saw a green LED on.

It is entirely possible that your power supply has died. FYI, I just got a similar computer in the shop. Same symptoms. Turned out the power supply had failed and it also blew out the motherboard. Hope that yours is just the power supply!

Power surges in the last couple of mornings. the other day power went off and on four or five times quickly. now my compaq sr5250nx will only show compaq start page and will not do anything else

Power surges affect hard disks very badly. So please disconnect hard disk and see if your are getting some messages on the screen. if so replace hard disk.
