Kenmore canister switch issue

Kenmore canister

  • Model# 11623813300 . When I have the switch on the bare floor setting (beater off), it's fine. When I advance the switch to the beater-on position, the powerhead turns on, but the vacuum itself shuts off. Would seem to be an issue in the switch. What's your best guess on the part for home repair. I see a part on Sears website called pcb assembly-slide pot. Is that the guy? Thanks, Dan.

I have the same problem and took it apart. There are two switches: one on the hose and one that activates the motor - on the right side just inside next to the motor. Took the switch apart (V-`0G-3C25-L) and found it was fried - slightly melted.

It most likely is the hose pcb. It has the switch on it, and part of it is either just dirty or bad.

The beater bar on my Kenmore Progressive stopped turning. I tried to clean the hair out of it, then switched it back on. The bar still wasn't turning and then it started to smoke..... lots of smoke,...

The belt is broken.First while looking at the brushes, find the screws that hold that bottom plate on.Remove the screws and the plate comes off. This will allow you to lift the brush out of the vacuum. It is important to make note of how the brush fits in the vacuum. The new belt will fit on a groove on the brush. The other end fits on a small wheel about six inches back from the brush.

I have a Sears Kenmore canister sweeper with the power mate, but it no longer has sufficient suction to pick up dirt. I took the machine apart and cleaned it, but it is still not sucking, does this model...

When cleaning the machine, did you do a good job of cleaning the beater brush and making sure it turned freely in the holders on each end? Perhaps a bit of WD40? Also, a new set of belts might help a bit.

Need to get to the beater bar

    Hello,

You're in luck! I actually just finished up writing a repair solution for this exact problem! Just like I said in my previous answer, you may want to try pushing the reset button first, especially if the power nozzle will not make any noise when you turn it to the carpet setting. If you have the model that's pictured above, then the two screws to your model are actually on the bottom of the power nozzle, not on the top.

Here's what you'll need to replace a belt on a Kenmore2_bing.gif canister vacuum:

    - Phillips Head Screw Driver
    - Flat Head Screw Driver

Here's the link to the Fixya repair I just did for a similar Sears Kenmore canister. The only difference is that your reset button is going to be a very small red pole on the top of the power nozzle, and the screws you'll need to remove are on the bottom of the power nozzle, not the top like the blue one I took pictures of in the repair. Everything else will be identical. I hope this helps you!

If you don't hear the power nozzle motor come on when you change the hose from Floors to Carpeting, this either means the reset switch needs to be pushed, or that you have a bad hose that needs to be replaced.

If you would like help on how to diagnosis the electric hose to see if it's bad, please just use the Clarification Request here on Fixya. Thank you very much,

Bare floor selection still rotates brushes

Your switch should have 2 different on positions. One for simple suction and one to engage the beater. The setting without the beater being engaged should be first position from off and the beater would be second position

    Motor won't run...beater bar does

might be the motor.but if there is a fuse it will be inside somewhere the cord comes in.if it there you will see a wire with a tubular piece of plastic in between the wire, thats where the fuse wil be.unplug it first.on the side you will see where the two pieces snap together.but first go back to the switch and make sure all the wires are connected.one might have came off when you were putting it back together

Kenmore Vacuum 116.36623501 does not stay on bare floor setting

It sounds like there is something wrong with the latching assembly. GO to the Sears Parts website and enter your Model number. Look at the parts assembly for the Nozzle, and the problem will be in one of items 12 through 17.
