Samsung sp251n hard drive. Using as slave. Only 150GB identified in device manager but no pins inserted. Where do I put the pin? Can't find any manuals online

Your hard drive may have two partitions, the first partition configured as 150Gb and the remainding 100Gb partition may not be set up and formatted.
The jumper settings may be printed on the label on the hard drive.
No jumpers are required for a Slave drive.

Would like to erase 150gb maxtor external drive and start over

Connect the drive.
Open "My Computer".
Right-mouse click on the icon for the Maxtor.
Click FORMAT.
Choose Quick-Format.
When it completes (in a few seconds), all the files on the disk will be "gone",
because a "blank" Table-Of-Contents has replaced the previous Table-Of-Contents.

I have a 150gb hard drive with 2gb memory. How can I upgrade my hard drive and memory

As with most laptops, there are two memory slot. This laptop has 1GB in each. You need to remove one or both and replace with 2GB boards. The 2gb memory boards are around $50 or so. Changing memory is easy to do.
Replacing a disk is easy also, but you need to get your programs from the old disk to the new. That usually takes a local shop to do that. You may just want to buy a new computer instead of upgrading.

Not enough disk space to copy

Scan the drive due to possibly virus managing your disk drive. Virus can easily access through USB hard drives. If not solve the problem, so its better to format.

Hard drive

jamesroland1,
You have a computer with a 40GB hard drive and you want to add another hard drive (150GB), is that correct? Not knowing the rest of your system age, setup and configuration makes it hard to know what you may encounter. If you can add more memory (RAM) it is always helpful to make applications work faster and multiple ones as well. You may want to add an external hard drive if you don't have the room or don't feel comfortable with opening the computer and installing an internal hard drive. If you want to replace the lower capacity drive, you need to reinstall the operating system on the drive and start from scratch.
