Yes, the Pentax ME Super has a built-in light meter. It is used by the ME Super in order to determine the correct exposure settings when the camera is used in the "A" (Autoexposure) & "AV" (Aperture-priority) exposure modes.

I don't mean to insult you, but have you tried new batteries?

Sometimes the meter fails when the batteries don't have enough juice.

Take care & Happy Imaging!

The light meter does not light up. I've put 2 new batteries in. The shutter works and the camera worked perfectly when i put it in storage 10 years ago. How do i get the light meter to work?

First off, did you store it with batteries installed? If so, check the compartment to be sure there's no corrosion on the contacts. If there is, a pencil eraser works well to clean it off - I don't recommend using any sort of liquid since it can seep into the inside.

If that's not the issue, I can't remember if the ME Super is a mechanical or electronic shutter. Does the shutter function, without any batteries installed? If so, it's mechanical and will not depend on batteries, and therefore there is really no way to narrow down the cause of the issue beyond a good cleaning.

If on the other hand it will not function without batteries, but is with them, you know the power system is working, and the meter itself is the issue. It'll require a technican to open the camera and hunt down the exact cause. Cost for an estimate most places is around $35, if you don't have a local shop, KEH Camera which has a website is very good,

You can of course just use the camera without a working meter. Handheld meters can be picked up from $10-400 online (ebay and others), or you can guesstimate your exposures if using print film using the tried and tested "sunny-16" rule of exposure.

Internal Light Meter broken

Not worth the money, when I was in college, my professor told us of the rule of "f16"....the speed should be set at 1 over the ISO at f16 at bright noon. You can adjust the setting with one f stop per hour. If you are shooting at...let's say...ISO 400...then your setting would be "f16 at 1/500 of a second at noon." If you are shooting an ISO of 64, then it would be f16 at 1/60th of a second and so forth...hope this helps.

No light meter on Vivitar V3800N

It may be that the batteries that came with the camera are dead. Double check the way you have them installed, both cells should have the positive side up as they sit in the cap. It is best to handle button cell batteries on the round edges rather than the flat sides. The battery cap for your camera should have open slots on the sides so you can place the batteries in using those openings

Underexposure problem maybe? please help!

Your camera probably needs a new battery.
The light meter needs sufficient power (5.5v to 6v) to work correctly.

Your ISO could have moved, even a double or halving of it will over/underxpose a full stop.

Exposure needle not working

clean the battery cover and contact with a pencil eraser making sure the cap threads are also clean.
this is a fairly expensive repair if the meter or circuit board needs replacing ( no new parts are available ).
if the meter still does not work, and the K1000 is in good working order buy a inexpensive hand held light meter.

My film advance lever will not advance

First check for corrosion on the two battery contacts, and that the lower contact is still spring loaded and moves. Be sure you have a good battery by inserting it and checking with the battery test button by the rewind knob. If the lights and meter needle are working you're getting power. Remove the bottom cover and you'll see an electromagnet under a whitish plastic cover at the rewind end of the camera. Pull the magnet away from the coil by rotating the L shaped metal lever - you don't have to remove the white cover. Sometimes the magnet gets sticky. That should release the shutter. If it's really dirty, it might stick again. Be careful if you remove the white plastic since the magnet has fine wires that are easily broken, but you can clean the magnet interface.

SLR light meter

Hmmm well its getting power.... surely the lens is on correctly. Since the camera seems to be working, one option is to get a hand-held light meter.
