Question about CTX F973 19 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Open Question

CTX P973 19 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor: Won't power-up Over a period of many months my CTX monitor has progressively got worse and now it no longer powers-up. Please help identify any possible faulty component. The 2 stages of the symptoms are as follows :- Stage-1 My CTX P973 monitor started showing tearing (interference type)lines over the full screen when pressing the Power-On button but soon cleared and full video became present and stable until the next switch on. Stage-2 Now the monitor wont power-up at all (no LED lights on the power button, blue or amber) however, on removing the power plug the blue LED lights momentarily. Similarly the blue LED lights up momentarily when re-inserting the power plug. But the power-on button no longer lights up when pressed and the monitor remains totally dead. Please can anyone suggest a possible component/s that could be the culprit (a specific Capacitor maybe ?).

micheluzzu, First thing to do is watch some of the better and more informative video clips at YOUTUBE so you will know just what you will be looking (visual inspection) for inside your CTX P973 !!! All "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" lcd monitors use same basic design and operating principles to display text and graphics on their glass lcd panel. If the "switch-mode-power-supply can't supply dc voltage and current to the rest of the key circuits in monitor you will have a black or blank n black screen to look at. Do extensive reading and follow all links you find in the fixya profiles/testimonials of "budmrtn" "buddymc" "12fixlouie" and other technicians here on fixya. Then come back after you have done your research if you need more help with your unit. 12fixlouie

SOURCE: Monitor wont power-up

It is usually the Large Value Caps around any heatsinks etc. in the Power Supply.. I usually simply replace ALL Large Value Electrolytic Capacitors, with same or better temperature ratings. This often fixes any problems.

The systems wear out over a period of about 2- 4 years.

christoph972, This really sounds like a SMPS going into SHUTDOWN MODE after detecting a fault in the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" electronic ballast circuit which is called an INVERTER CIRCUIT, or it has a problem all by itself. The big question is? ? ? WHAT is causing the fault? I need you to do the flashlight test to evaluate the condition of the LCD monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply". With a KNOWN-GOOD, fully booted pc that has the WIN-desktop showing, reconnect the S760 to the pc. then and only then push the "ON" button for the monitor and note what happens. After the screen goes black, shine a bright flashlight at different angles about 1" from the LCD screen. Get back to me with the results of test. Did you see or not see the WIN-DESKTOP? Also visit YOUTUBE and search for and view videos of typical lcd monitor disassembly and or lcd repair. FYI only!! The longer ones (8-12min) will be more informative. The symptom you have with this freebie monitor is classic! It could possibily be repaired for $12 or less. Get back to me here at fixya by posting another comment to the above stuff you already did. I"m louie12fix onfixya or lmistyrel @aol.com

YOu can go to the monitor settings to make sure nothing's been changed. It could be an energy saver issue where the display dims after a certain period of time, and you can reset it to longer period of time so it would stay bright for you
