Question about Acer Aspire 5920-6727 Notebook

Open Question

I have an acer 5920G. And i had a blinking led on the power supply. I used the info found on here and the problem was a defective capacitor. I removed it and the laptop was booting again. I know they say i don't have to replace the part but I want to replace it. Cause it should be good for something. Only problem is I don't know how much farrat the capacitor should be. I can find thousands of them. But i don't know which one. SO if anyone knows for what part i can replace it. PLease let me know

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5920G wont play dvd, it wont even recognise them!

If it recognises cd but not dvd it means the drive is faulty. There is 2 lasers one for cd and one for dvd. The dvd laser is faulty. It also means that it is not dirty lens because it reads cd's.

Your motherboard is probably shorting out your A/C adapter, you may need a new motherboard. With a Dell, the A/C adapter light will be green when plugged into the wall but as soon as you plug it into the PC the green light goes off. Which means that the Motherboard is shorting out the A/C adapter...

hope this helps

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5920G BLANK SCREEN

Hi,
First of all you have to determine if the problem is the GPU (graphics processing unit) or a possible bad connection on the inverter.

To check this you will need to plug an external monitor to the laptop and use the keyboard toggle to switch screens, usually its hold down Fn and press F6 or the F key with a monitor icon on it.

If the external monitor comes on then the problem maybe the inverter.

To check this remove the screen bezel (plastic screen surround). At the bottom of the screen you will see an elongated piece of circuit board with wires coming from either end covered by frosted plastic.
That is the inverter, check the connections on the inverter (both sides) and power the laptop up to check the display, to remove it gently pull the plugs from each end and remove the screw from the middle and pull the board away.
Look on the back of the inverter itself for a copper coil, if you re-solder the solder points around the coil you may find it works again as components that suffer from extreme heat the solder joints dry causing bad connections, re-floating the solder solves the problem in 90% of cases.

Good luck.

SOURCE: Acer aspire 4930 wont turn on

You have done the right things by working on some process of elimination.
try removing the battery and the AC adapter from the laptop hold down the power button for about 40 secs then try with power. IF this doesnt work chances are its a Motherboard failure.
hope this helps a little

1.not much info here.
>> please leave a model number <<
2. more info on issue would help (wont power on, boots to bios but not windows) ill assume the word dead means the system wont power on.
3. if the system will not power up then the led is likely communicating a POST message. POST messages can be referenced on the e machines support site.
4. typically one would remove all non-essential hardware and try to boot (ram is pretty much the only essential hardware {depends on the model})

5. Power supply can be tested with a multi meter if you have a multi meter see here: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/power-supply-test-multimeter.htm
6. (WARNING there is a slight chance that you could harm the donor supply try this at your own risk) you can try swapping power supplies if you have one that is compatible (from an old machine or from a different machine for testing purposes). if it boots with diff PSU then that's the problem.

7. look for bulging capacitors on the motherboard if caps are bulging they can be replaced with caps that are exactly the same.

My laptop won't work on battery now!!

look at the bottom of the laptop where you install the battery, there's should be what looks like metal contacts where the battery connects to the actual computer. make sure that when you installed the battery you didn't accidentally bend 2 of them so they were touching eachother. you may have created a direct short which is what caused your heat and the smell. try to plug the battery back in and be careful that you don't bend the metal contacts.

It wont turn on. power light blinks red twice

Hi Smith,

2 flashes of the LED light is an error code for "Low DC voltage". The output voltage of the power supply is not normal(dropped) and the caused of this fault is a leaky/dried filter electrolytic capacitor on that section.

Leaky electrolytic capacitor has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identify through visual inspection. See sample picture below.

jdvillanueva_129.jpg

If you're handy with electronics and know how to solder and desolder parts on the board, check the power supply for obvious leaky capacitor. If you've found them, replaced it with same capacitance and working voltage that is printed on its body itself. Watch the video below for more info regarding electrolytic capacitor.

Dried electrolytic capacitor has no physical indication of fault, you must have a capacitor checker/tester to determine its condition or you may replaced all electrolytic capacitor in the output of the power supply, it will not caused you much because this is one of the cheapest part on that board(cost only $4 at the most).

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Many problems could cause the power supply board LED power light indicator to blinks.Capacitors are dying only one problems, but common one.Check carefully for dying capacitors are bulging ups or puffing ups on it tops.If find no capacitors dying and leakages, could be anything on the power supply board is dying or already dead.Must have to know major electronic skills and troubleshooting skills to find which components exactly.Best, just try website like Ebay.com,to a whole refurbuish power suply board for the replacement.

This LCD is using a power supply number: MLT168A. The common failure is with defective capacitors in the secondary side and you do not need schematics for this repair. Use the picture below as a reference to find the defective capacitors that show signs of bulging. You might also need to replace 2 capacitors under HS4.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

The tv shuts off by itself and when i try to turn it back on it shuts back off and the Power and opc leds blink

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps
