Hi, you may have a problem with the lead give it a good wiggle all the way from the ps to the telly if that dont work try and borrow a friends lead to rule out the lead being the problem, if it still dont work then try the following to reset the console.

This is how to fix it:
1)turn your ps3 -off- by the switch at the back
2)turn it back -on- again by the switch at the back only
(there should be a red light now)
3)now -hold- your thumb on the power button located on the front for a few seconds until the ps3 turns itsself on and off.
(during this process there will be about three beeps spaced apart, and after that the light will return to red)
4)finally hold your thumb on the front power button again and you will hear two beeps then a double beep.
-IMPORTANT-
After you hear the double beep take your thumb off the button before it shuts itself down again.
5)once you have done that you should see the picture.

if after doing the above it still dont work then this would indicate it has over heated so try the following.

1 switch the ps3 off and leave it off for at least an hour
2 remove all leads from ps3 and tv
3 make sure the ps3 is not being used on carpet or on top of dvd player or sky box as this will cause it to over heat very quick
4 make sure all the air vents are clean and have no dust vac them out if needed.
5 make sure the ps3 has got good air flow around it and not stuck inside a shelf thats blocked off at the back as this to will cause it to over heat.
6 now plug it back in and give it a try.

if it still dont work then this would indicate the gpu chip has over heated and has probably fried.
if you have any warranty left on it take it back as this fault is covered by warranty.

i fix these for about 25 pound plus parts so you need to shop around and see if you can get it repaired, their is no guarantee the repair will work as their is always the chance that it has over heated that much that it has cracked the solder joints that hold the chip onto the circuit board.

im in uk and we do offer a repair service so if your in the uk and would like it repaired you can give me a shout back or if you need further assistance just give me a shout back.

let me know how you get on ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

All picture and no sound

Rick:
simply unplug--then replug--your HDMI cable. Or also go into the audio setup menu and reapply the "automatic" setting for HDMI to get the sound to work. I don't know if Sony can do anything about this or not in a firmware upgrade, but what it can do is try to simplify the labeling on some of the sound settings.

Bought my ps3 when it came out been really good till naw . it will switch on disc will go in everything sounds like it works but i get no picture tried a new scart lead and still nothing.

  • If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system.
  • Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.
  • This is from playstations website Hope this helps.

I have sound but my picture wont show up

    Hi,

Try resetting the video settings on the PS3.
Hold down the power button on the PS3 until you hear a beep. Release the power button and press it again.
That should have reset the video settings and allow you to set them again.

If by chance you still can't see the picture check that the video leads are connected properly. If you have checked them and still no picture then there could be something wrong with the console itself.

    Regards.

HAS SOUND BUT NO PICTURE, IT IS NOT THE TV CAUSE THEY ARE PRETTY NEW. ALSO HOOKED UP A PLAYSTATION AND IT WORKED.

I had a similar problem. Don't worry, it's probably something really simple.
    1) First check you component HD AV cable:
Is it properly plugged into the back of the XBOX? Push it in with a bit of force until it snaps into place
    2) Check the Red, White and Yellow leads. Are they going to the right connections?
    3) If you are using the Scart connection or a connecting your XBOX to your TV via a DVD player check all the Scart connections to see if they haven't come loose and if they have, push them firmly back in.

One of those is likely to be the problem.

    DVD playback no playback

Sounds like the scart lead is not in straight. Scart connectors have the audio pins at one end, and the video pins at the other. If the lead isn't in straight then you often get sound and no picture and vice versa.

Check the connection by pushing the scart lead in securely. (Both DVD and TV end of the lead)

Failing that could be a dodgy lead.
