My Emerson AC is no longer blowing out cold air. It worked fantastic last year. It has not been used since September '07 until now. Are there parts that can be purchased and replaced to bring that cold refrigeration air back or am I out of luck and will have to buy a new one?

I,t sounds like you had a leak, and pulled air into the system. This calls for professional servicing. Whenever there's a leak in a refrigeration system, air and sometimes other noncondensables get pulled into the system. They don't belong there. They cause heat and high pressure in the condenser, and will eventually destroy the compressor. The system needs dehydration and evacuation before charging. That's after all leaks have been repaired.
Small units such as yours are disposable, but can be charged through the process tube. Refrigeration systems are sealed units and refrigerant don't just evaporate out in thin air. There must be a leak in the system. After repairing the leak, the system must be evacuated of all air that was pushed into it by atmospheric pressure or it will never work properly. To charge it, you need a piercing type schrader valve and attach it to the process tube (resembles a pig tail at the end of the coil, crimped off).
Check the refrigeration lines coming off the outside unit. One should be very cold and one relatively warm. If one is not very cold, then the compressor is not working. Usually you can hear it when it is running. The condenser fan in the outside unit should also be operating. If the compressor and fan are operating, but the refrigeration line is not cold, you probably have a refrigeration leak and have lost the coolant. You will need a service tech for the repair.
It would not be a slow leak, but you don't know, if your brother punchtured the coil. If the unit is less than 5 years old, it should be still under warrenty. If it is the coil, depending on the make . say lennox heat pump. the coil is $1,700.00, Coils are all different prices. It might be cheaper to replace whole unit. SORRY
Automotive AC is a complex thing to resolve. I have rebuilt many and have seen what it takes to make them work correctly. Now send me make, model, year and engine type and from there I can help you solve your problem. Thanks, Sea Breeze
I have a fairly new Haier Air Condition that I bought last year, it has been working good up until last night. I keep this one in my bedroom and put it on every night since the summer. Last night I woke up very warm, the temp reading was 75 the AC did nothing but blow out just air. I threw away the booklet on it because I've had no problem up until now. Does anyone know how I can make it cold again. HELP!!!!
