The problem is usually cause by a corrupted operating system. Reinstall OS. Another possible cause is a defective memory module. Remove and reinstall your memory modules. If you have more than one module, try to reinstall one module at a time.
Good luck.

When you do an install of Windows XP to 8 the system restarts automatically to run some of the programs in resident memory. I would suggest that you try a new install of your OS, If you are running a clocked CPU you should unclock it to remove that from the list of possible causes. The problem may also be a symptom of some upgrades to Windows not having been installed. The most common faults with this type of symptom is the lack of the Dot.Net upgrades from Microsoft the minimum needed is version 2 but the version level is currently at Version4. If you are still having the Kernel power problems you mat have a failed motherboard or more likely a dodgy psu. When you spend that sort of money on a MOBO and CPU/Graphics package you need to get a good (named ) PSU preferably at least a "Bronze" certified item.

Blk screen, won't start, tried reboot but nothing. Screen stays blk no hard drive noise only CPU fan running.

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you. Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Computer won't do anything, keyboard does not light up, screen is blank

So there is not so much as a BIOS message on screen? Any beeps?
If there is no life at all, you have a CPU/motherboard failure. This may be direct or indirect (e.g. no power to MoBo). Check your connections.
Otherwise, your boot device may not be operating. This is usually a dead or disconnected HDD. Check that it is plugged in. Does it get warm? Can you feel any vibrations from it? It should spin even if your cpu is dead but MoBo is alive.

Computer freezes / locks up after running a while,

Sounds like it's overheating. Check to make sure your graphics card cooling fan and CPU cooling fan are working. If they are add some case fans. Get a can of compressed air and clean out all the vents and fans. You can also use a vacuum with a hose attachment to clean it.

My laptop is stuck on the screen before the page for the login screen, it is a blinking dash, with a black backdrop, it has been stuck for 2 days, what is wrong with it? And how can i fix it?

If the DeLL Post screen comes up it means that your laptop is okay. Pretty much your windows is corrupted and that's the reason why it's not starting up.

Things that you can do: (for windows vista & windows 7 only)

1. Restart the PC and immediately press F8. (You need to tap/press F8 repeatedly while starting up). You should get a screen that says "Advanced option menu."
2. Select Last known good configuration. If it does not work. restart the pc and press F8 again.
3. Select Repair your computer.
4. Run start up repair. If nothing happens. Run system restore. If it fails, the boot manager file of windows is corrupted.

Last option, you could try Dell PC Restore by pressing CTRL + F11 at the same time while the system is starting up. (You could start pressing CTRL + F11 when the DELL flash screen comes up).

NOTE: Running Dell PC Restore will erase your files/data & put your system back to factory settings.

Dell Dimension 8250 ,FAN TOO FAST & Noisy but CPU COOL...

The fan settings can be found in the BIOS. On a Dell machine, when you turn the computer on repeatedly hit F2 until you are brought to the BIOS. Search through there until you find something named Acoustics, change the option to run at a lower level. Remember to save the changes before you exit.
