My Tomtom one freezes on the hand logo and will not move from that screen. It worked until I did an update, but now nothing. I get an error when I try to do a back up or try to operate it on the HOME site. All the resets solutions do not work either. Any others with this problem?
Thanks very much!
Unfortunatley, I get an error when I try to back up, so that is not possible. Thanks very much for trying to help though. This is a great site. :)Unfortunatley, I get an error when I try to back up, so that is not possible. Thanks very much for trying to help though. This is a great site. :)

For TomTom you need TomTom home to update your maps.
When connecting a TomTom to a PC, it will ask you if it should connect to TomTom home. Eventually it will install the program
By default, the TomTom ONE 125 does not include maps of Canada. You can do one of two things:
1. If you just purchased it and can take it back, buy a TomTom ONE 130. It includes Canada maps and usually is only about $10-20 more.
2. Use the TomTom Home software (the same one that you use to update the TomTom and add voices, etc) and purchase the maps for it. I'm not sure how much they are, but certainly less than a new GPS.
I am not saying this is your problem, but I have had several TomTom 125's lately that do the same thing. It seems that the ram is faulty and as far as I know there is no fix.
Don't really know how BUT I seem to have solved the problem. Let's first review the problem.
1) I downloaded from TomTom a recommended update.
2) The update screwed up half way through the installation.
3) End result. TomTom refused to get beyond the opening logo and the drum beat!
4) TomTom HOME did not recognise it as a device, ("No device connected") bottom right of screen.
5) Consequently it was impossible to "restore" the software using Tomtom HOME.
6) So contacted TomTom through their website and tried the online fixes, (hardware reset etc) with no result.
7) Filled in a support ticket on the site, the ultimate outcome being a request to return it for repair.
8) I asked for an estimate of the cast (having described the symtoms). They would not give me an estimate until they had seen it.
9) Scanned various forums (including Fixya), but could not find a solution.
10) Decided at that point that is was going to cost, either to get it repaired or buy another, so whatever I did wouldn't matter!
11) So borrowed a card reader to examine the SD card.
12) Windows told me it was not formatted!
13) Couldn't find a friend anywhere with a Western Europe Map on an SD card to try to copy.
14) I was sure I had backed up the Tomtom via TomTom HOME when I first bought it, but where did it store the backup?
15) Found a folder in "My Documents" called "TomTom"
16) Scanning through that folder structure I found a folder called "One".
17) In that folder was another folder called "Backup01"
18) So I formatted the SD Card (heart thumping!) then right clicked on the "Backup01" folder and "Send to" the G drive (the drive letter for the SD card in the card reader)
19) Things happened on screen and files moved across the screen.
20) Took the SD card out and pushed it into the TomTom. Switched on TomTom and behold it started to work!
21) Since then TomTom HOME has scanned the device and downloaded a number of updates. The only difference I can see between its previous performance and its current state is that some of the opening screens have changed and it no longer shows the briefcase screen when it switches off.
22) Will be testing it on a long journey shortly and hoping for the best. Will not guarentee that this will work for all people with a problem, but it has on my device. Good luck!
- Do a soft reset of the system, with the paperclip (see tomtom site)
- Put the device on the docking station and connect it to power as well as to your computer. While it's turned off
- Turn on the TOMTOM while connected to the computer
- Start the TOMTOM Home software
- And it made connection again
- Disconnect the device via the software
- Take the device out of the docking station
- Turn it off and on once
This worked for me, my next step would have been the support desk. Grtz Derk
Same here but I moved the file "MapSettings.cfg" out of my map folder (it is in the SD card). Then TT One starts again normally but I have no clue, how I can get my "Favourites" back to my updated TomTom?
Okay, I fixed it and came back to tell the story in case some poor soul finds their way here with the same problem. Some of these tomtoms come with guam as well as us and canada. we didn't fat finger it; for some reason tomtom home stored us and canada on the hard drive (g) and took it off the device when it did its first update.
First, plug your tomtom into the computer and go to "remove items" and remove guam. it will give you the option to store it on the g drive which i did, (in case I should take a notion to go there soon.) this provides more space on your device.
Now go to "add maps, traffic, etc," in tomtom home and scroll the arrow to page forward until you see "items on my computer." click this and then click maps. hopefully us/canada is there, thats where tomtom home had put mine. click "add" for that item and it should upload to your device. this takes a long time. there may be an application that tomtom still wants to update to your device. do this before turning the tomtom off from the computer, i couldn't see that us/canada was there until I did this, and then I had to turn the tom tom off, and bring it back into tomtom home two times before I could see it had the map and was working again.
your compass will also be messed up after you have done any updates at all to your tomtom. this is tom toms new application, there is nothing we can do about it until they fix it someday. the tomtom still works right, you just don't have the cool compass options you had with the original. if you did a back up before you initial update you can go back to the older application if you want.
hope this helps people, as you can see above i was very frustrated because the nice people who really did try to help in this and other discussions had not experienced the problem and did not know the answer. maybe tomtom udates does different things at different times, but this is what it did to mine.
Unfortunatley, I get an error when I try to back up, so that is not possible. Thanks very much for trying to help though. This is a great site. :)
