Hi. Pardon me for asking. I Just want to clarify something. Are you referring with LG DVD drive on your computer or is it the LG DVD player? If it is regarding your computer. May i know if the DVD drive was able to detect by your computer when you click MY COMPUTER. Your DVD drive should appear there together with your harddrive.

Ok got it. Using a CD cleaner sometimes might not work. You may try cleaning it manually using alcohol and qtip. This will require to open your DVD player. Apply small amoung of alcohol to the qtip and reach the Lens of you player. Gently clean the lens in a circular motion then let it dry for 2 mins. Close the DVD player then try again. If this will not work then it is time to replace the lens of the player.

In regards to you disk cleaners most of them are CD based and not DVD based. So eventhough you may have had video when you ran the cleaner the format was not DVD. Alot of your players have a dual laser on for DVDs and one for CDs. If you have had the drive for less than a year I would contact LG to get an RMA for the drive.

If you are out of warranty you might try to manually clean the laser by hand with a cotton swab. Some times there is build up that the clean kit may not have gotten off but in most cases the laser its self has gone out.

Let me know if you have any more questions

Base from the description of your problem this is a lens issue on your unit, what you can do here since the player is not reading any DVD is to clean the lens of the player using a DVD lens cleaner that you can get from any electronic or computer store near you.
Because this type of problem can be cause by some dirt/dust on your lens so it will be better if you run a DVD lens cleaner on it.

If the DVD player works, *try and seek if the player recognises a DVD), then you need to install software to play your DVD. VLC Media player is excellent, free and plays anything.

My CD/DVD Player doesnt recognise any CD or DVDs.

the laser lens is dirty or damaged...a laser lens cleaner cd might help..if that doesn't solve it then the laser lens is damaged...you can purchase a relativley cheap dvd player that plays divx/mp4 files and (s)vcd video with cd audio and mp3 support. some come with usb ports and some support .jpeg files(pictures) depending on where you live the price varies.

Dvd drive dose not recognise any dvds i put in it keeps saying unknown disc

If your unit is older the optical pick up lens may be dirty or has gone bad. Most Philips units are exchange items only, meaning they replace it under warranty instead of fixing it, if its out of warranty there usually are no parts or service information on them. Philips was bought be Funai and is not the company it used to be. Check if the unit will play a audio CD, if it does the pickup assembly is bad, some will play a CD but not a DVD. You may be able to clean the p/u lens with alcohol and a Q-tip. The lens is under the clamp that holds the disc while spinning.

DVD PLAYS CD'S BUT WONT PLAY DVD'S

Aquarius0128 there are two things to consider here.. dvd's recorded on a computer need to be closed/finalized after you have recorded onto them in order to be used on a stand alone player.. they will play ok on original recorder because of the design of these machines finalizing prepares the structure of the disc so it can be recognised by other players as a dvd video disc.. you will usually see a 'finalize disc' option in your recording program

Second issue is this.. even if finalized an older (or even some modern) stand alone players will not recognise a recorded disc made on a computer or even if it can there are different formats DVD+R DVD-R and even DVD-RAM and DVD-RW (the two latter ones are rarely recognised outside a computer)
