Check if the remote have a charged battery, or try to replaced it with a fresh battery..

if you are using a universal remote you still need to enter codes to operate in a certain TV..

Please post back. & let us know more here..

The remote will only work if I am directly in front of the media center. Nothing is blocking the line of sight, the remote doesn't use an led. What is wrong with the remote and can it be fixed?

Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check by pressing all the buttons on it; and see whether all of it generates infrared signal while pressing. If it is found OK, check and replace the infrared sensor inside the TV. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. It has details about how to check a remote control; by one among the post. Surf the site with patience. I'm trying to use my dish remote and it won't

Hi Alison, my name is Kimberly and I form part of the Social Media Department with DISH. I apologize for the delayed response. At this point I'm sure you probably don't need assitance anymore but would like to provide it to you anyway just in case you need it in the future. If the remote lights still come on, the remote may only need to be addressed to the receiver.

First make sure that you are using the correct remote control in case you have more than one dual receiver at home. If you do, check that your UHF remote antenna is securely connected to the "Remote Antenna" port on the back of your receiver and that the antenna is upright. Try addressing the remote again. Please take the remote to the TV1 location (where the receiver is) once you are here, Press 'System Info' on the front of the receiver, this should take you to the System Info screen. On the System Info screen towards the bottom you will see listed 'Remote address 1' and 'Remote address 2' grab the remote that needs to be addressed. On the remote, press and hold the clear SAT button at the top for 5 seconds (once the buttons begin to flash) press the number 8 button on the remote, and then the 'Record button 3 times' This should re address the remote to the receiver and should now work. If you need additional assistance please contact me at:kimberly.escobar@dish.com

Check the infrared emission from the remote control. You can check with with a cellphone with camera option. If you wish to know how to check and repair a remote control, check this link. Always check the remote control with new batteries installed. If you wish to get more setup codes, three digits, four digits or five digit ones, check this link. Pull up older posts. Kevin rico,

I can definitely check this out with you. Does the SAT button light up when you press any buttons at all? If you press SAT, can you operate the receiver?

If neither of those work then the remote most likely needs to be replaced. If you would like to try that option, just send me an email at thomas.faust@dish.com and i'll assist you further!

Setup menu

Ok I've just found out how to get the interlaced/progressive problem sorted out. It is as follows and PLEASE REMEMBER you will be doing this "Blind" sice the screen is black:

1. Power on the DVD unit.
2..Press the "SET UP" button on the remote, ONCE (DVD Display should show "Setup" )
3. Using the arrow buttons on the remote, push the RIGHT arrow ">" ONCE
4..Press the "DOWN" Arrow on the remote ONCE
5. Press the "ENTER" button on the remote ONCE
6. Press the "DOWN" Arrow on the remote ONCE
7. Press the "ENTER" Button on the remote ONCE
At this point you should have your picture and menu displayed on the screen, simply hit setup again to exit, and get the hell out of there!

If you want a copy of what you should be looking for, e mailed, I can do that.
Finally, to do a system restore, which will achive the same results (but you'll have to reset date, time etc.), follow steps 1 & 2 Then instead of hitting the DOWN arrow once, press it THREE times and hit "ENTER" this will restore the unit to factory settings. I have never done this so I am only guesing what other settings you will have to adjust, as well as time and date.

I also have the details on how to make the unit region free, email me and I'll send them to you.
Good Luck!
