Question about Philips 43P8341 43" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Phillips 43P8341 no picture, blinking red light

Was working fine yesterday, now today won't turn on. Just blinking indicator light on front panel (blinks 6 times, then repeats). Can these pieces on the tuner or video board be replaced easily? is it economical? do i need a service/repair person to do it? Unit is over 6 years old.

    Update:
I spoke with Phillips service and some local repair services. Their thought was that the motherboard or video board needed at least a circuit replaced or fully replaced. The cost, as expected, would be in the $100-400 range.
So following some basic recommendations, and I left the unit unplugged for 2-3 days. And it is working again! After several days of use, the same problem recurred, so I unplugged it again.
For now, I have been leaving the unit unplugged at night, and plugging it each morning. That seems to hold off any issues. Not a perfect solution, but if I can get another year or two of use out of it, I'll be thrilled. There is obviously some build up or overload of a circuit that occurs with prolonged use. But I'm not willing to invest in a new motherboard at this point.
Just thought I'd share my results...Good luck.

which LED lights on front are on and or blinking?

If the red or others blink look to see if they are blinking a specific number of times--like red one blinking 3 times, pause and repeating--this is a error code and may indicate what problem in set is.

Hi! I am experiencing the following three

Hi Rafael,

First of all thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.
Please confirm if the brand and model number above is correct.
Blinking of the the LED (yellow and blue) at the front panel indicating that the lamp door cover is not seated properly. This cover will engaged to a micro switch giving the signal to the processor, once it is in open position, the unit will not power up and will experienced that kind of blinking error code. Go back to the lamp door cover and ensure that it is properly seat-in.
3D, 2D, red/green/blue ghost on the picture and letters means that the convergence circuitry gone bad. Symptoms is not connected to the light engine. The faulty parts is the convergence chips(IC). This chips are mounted on the large aluminum heat sink and starts with STKXXXX-XX (X means number). The most common STK chips used on Projection TV's is the STK392-110. You have to replaced them both on the board to resolve the issue(red ghosting). It is necessary also to check the resistance value of the resistors around its circuitry using the multimeter. For more info how to repair a convergence problem, watch the video below.

Lets try an error code operational checl. Unplug the tv and plug it back in. With the standby LED on press and hold the MENU and DEVICE/INPUT buttons for 5 seconds. The LED will flash a certain number of times pause for a while and blink again. Count the blinks before and after the pass, then post it here so that I can tell you what the problem is

10 blinks is an indication of a high voltage problem.without further examination i would be guessing. i have replace faulty d curcit boards in some cases to fix. i would get a tech to look at to narrow it dow

Philips 43P8341 will not turn on

sounds like your two convergence ICs are shorted out, plus you probably need two 6.8ohm resistors ICs are part # STK392-120
should be installed by a trained repairman cost about $300-400

If you hear the Lamp fan turn, it is probably the lamp it self that has failed. If you do not hear the lamp fan turn then the fan could be bad or binding.
Hope this helps,

No Picture - Lamp Indicator Blinking

This may be the main power supply, or the lamp supply. This is providing that the new lamp is okay.

The service tech will swap out the modules to service the set.
