If you just turn one stove top and after a while it shut off and displays the code PF, meaning power failure.

That's strange, you didn't have a power outage. So if you go outside and check the breaker. Its not tripped. Then you start the stove again and it works normally. You continue cooking, and every thing is fine. The next week the same thing happens, PF. Each week this happens more and more.

You've had enough and call the repair man. No big deal, things break, you call the repair man, he fixes it and you're good to go. You can use a day off work. The repair man said he will be there first thing in the morning and you will have the rest of the day off. The man comes and says, you need a new main board, (they always say you need a new main board, more on that later).

Then he says, I'll need to order it. This is when you say @#$%. Now you have to take another day off work. Well, I guess if we have to we have to. So, you make another appointment, he installs the new board and you're good as new. Two weeks later the same thing happens. You say @#$% again only a little louder this time.

You make another appointment and this time the repair man gets the stove to display the PF code himself. He's stumped. He says that he replaced the main board, there's nothing more that it can be. He gets on the phone with tech support and they are stumped.

Now the repair man says that it must be something wrong with the power coming into your house. He suggests that you have an electrician come and take a look at the wiring in your house, and you do. The electrician comes to the house and sais something like, yeah you need a new "thermal-damafamick valve" and charges you whatever he thinks you will pay. That's all fine because now your dryer is fixed. Two weeks later it happens again. You say @#$% again and this time kick the stove. It turns out that the kick you just gave the stove fixes it just as well as the four other appointments the repair man made you take work off and wait for them all day did.

Now back to the main board. They always say it's the main board because most of the time it is. Yes, they are guessing that its the main board but most of the time it is so, they are ahead of the game if it works. If it doesn't work, then they get paid to come back out and guess, and fix it again.

Now for the fix. Its the thermistor. Sometime they is called Thermistor probe or just Probe

Definition of a thermistor.
therm·is·tor [th?r m?st?r] (plural therm·is·tors) noun
temperature-dependent semiconductor: a semiconductor device with a resistance that is very sensitive to temperature, resistance decreasing as the temperature increases

This little simple and inexpensive device simple regulates temperature kind of like a thermostat. Don't confuse it with a thermostat. You dryer also has a thermostat but the thermostat is not the problem. This part is located on the stove housing. Unplug the stove from the electric outlet so you don't electrocute yourself or others. Remove the two 1/4-in hex head screws, then remove the toe panel. Now you will see the stove housing. The thermistor is located on the top of the stove housing. I am pretty good seeing with my hands and was able to remove and replace the thermistor without removing any other parts. remove the wires from the thermistor. The wires slip on with a what is called a spade terminal. Don't worry what wire goes where, it does not mater in this case what wire goes to what terminal does not matter. Now you just need to remove the two 1/4-in hex head screws, remove the thermistor and reassemble in reverse order. That it, your finished in under an hour.

The part you need is under the name Frigidaire
Part # 318349900
Thermistor

You can ordered the part from www.PartStore.com if their is not any you can make a search with above code it cost about $19.95, $7.95 shipping and $1.62 tax.

It looks like flat plastic base oval 2x2 inch 1/8 thick and with two plug in the centre usually black or white

Good Luck

How do I make it shut up?

You probably have an error conditon. Is anything displayed on the control panel? If it's displaying "PF", that means "Power Failure". Press the STOP or CANCEL button, then set the time. That should stop the beeping (if it's displaying PF). if any other error code is displaying, I would need to know your range model number, and the code that was being displayed.

We had a power failure and Kenmore stove showed pf and now loc. cannot get burners to turn on and cannot get loc off.

If you have a power failure or a brown out, it sends a very powerful current through the unit. Please keep in mind that these units are not protected against any surges. If you have a display, that means you have power. Unfortunately, the clock/timer contains relays that control the elements, the oven, etc. You will need to replace the clock to get it running again.

PF code

Depending on manufacturer and model, PF can mean a number of things. On my stove, PF simply indicates "Power Fail" Yours may, too. You can clear this generally by updating the clock display. To verify that PF does indeed mean power fail for your stove, simply shut off the power for the cicuit than supplies the stove. This can be either circuit breaker or fuses. Turn the power back on after 5 or more seconds and if it displays PF again, you know it means power fail.

Otherwise, please provide the manufacturer and model of you stove for an answer.

Good luck!

I HAVE THE PF CODE FLASHING ALONG WITH THE HIGH LOW OFF LIGHTS AND PRESSING BUTTONS DOESNT WORK

Hello

PF error code means Power Failure, it is displayed when the unit is either not getting enough power or the power board also known as the electronic control board has gone bad and needs replacement. As pressing buttons doesn't work then first unplug the unit for 15 minutes and then check, if this does not help then replacing the control is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

When I plug the machine in it either does nothing or flashes PF then acts as if there is no power. It is the machine not the outlet.

PF just means your house has experienced a power failure since you last used the machine.

Unplug it for 40 minutes to reset.
