Restore original image after cropping hi, i m using windows XP service pack. i cropped a photo in ms paint and clicked "save" icon, assuming i would be asked to overwrite the original/create a copy or the program would have already created a copy to edit. This was obviously not the case.i now really want the original uncropped picture back. photos are saved on my hard drive. many sites/programs make specific reference to "deleted files"/"overwritten". But i want to recover, specifically, an original image after being cropped.

Hi eloquentms, Where did you get the original image from ?
Can you get it from the original source like from a camera or an email message ?
Once you pressed save you altered the file . It cannot be undone .

Good info but too late to help in this case.
You will notice the option of SAVE AS
That lets you save the file as a different name but you have to type in a different name I usually put _crop at the end of the original file name to avoid this overwriting action

You have a slight slim chance of finding a shadow copy of the file. A very Very slim chance.
scroll down to windows xp part http://www.wintips.org/restore-deleted-f...http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/index....https://www.staffs.ac.uk/images/user195_...

my favorite solution on another forum LOL
Sure -- load your backup software, and restore the version from the
    appropriate backup copy.

SOURCE: I was doing photo editing,

If you haven't closed Paint since then the original picture might still be in its buffers: try the Undo command then resave it. If the picture hasn't been overwritten (saved in the same location and with the EXACT same name) then it was most likely automatically deleted. First check the Trash, then try using a recovery software like
http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/Backup-and-Recovery/Portable-Recuva.shtml
If the picture has been overwritten then it's gone, no way of recovering it.

I have just purchased a Lenovo A616 but cannot insert a picture into my contacts list. Has anyone any idea how to do this.

  1. Locate and display the contact's information.
  2. Edit the contact's information.Touch the Edit icon or, if it's unavailable, touch the Action Overflow or Menu icon and choose the Edit or Edit Contact command.
  3. Touch the icon where the contact's picture would go, or touch the existing picture assigned to the contact.
When no picture is assigned, the icon shows a generic human image.
  4. Touch the Choose Photo from Gallery command.
The option could be titled Select Photo from Gallery or just Gallery.
If you have another image management app on your phone, you can instead choose the app's command from the list.
  5. Browse the Gallery to look for a suitable image.
  6. Touch the image you want to use for the contact.
  7. Optionally, crop the image.
You can use the figure as a guide, though the cropping tool on your phone may look different from the one shown in the figure.
  8. Touch the Save button to set the cropped image.
At this point, the image is cropped and set in the contact's information, but that information hasn't yet been saved.
  9. If necessary, touch the Done or Save button to finish editing the contact.
The image is assigned, and it appears whenever the contact is referenced on your phone.

Change profile picture on fixya

Hi Laura,

You can change your profile photo by first signing into Fixya and then clicking your avatar in the top right corner of the page. Select the My Account link in the dropdown that appears.

On the My Account page scroll down to the My Settings section of the page and click the upload button below the avatars displayed.

In the popup that appears select the file from your computer that you would like to use as your photo. After selecting the file you should see the image in a large box.

You can then crop the photo and you should see the thumbnail next to the larger image. Once you have cropped the image as you'd like, just click the blue "Upload photo" button in the popup window.

How to crop photos

Are these photos you have uploaded to your laptop? Can you find the folder they are in?
When you right-click on any one of the images, do you get an Edit option? Or an "Open with" option?
If you are using MS Windows and MS Office, you can Open with Office Picture Manager. That has an "Edit pictures" button at the top, and then a Crop option.
If you are on MS Windows, but don't have Office, trying downloading a very good free editor called Paint.Net. That has Image Crop options as well.

After cropping and saving a picture, how do I revert it back to the original photo?

Hello Karen,

You need to go to the original picture file. As you can only undo cropping or other changes while the undo option in edit menu is active, usually early on when file is open in programme editing with. Just after doing the cropping.

So hopefully you didn't crop picture then write over its original file. You saved it { save as } to a new file. If you did overwrite original file after cropping; then you will need to relocate this original picture from the source it came from to access original composition, size etc. If from your camera then simply re transfer to your computer & open it there.

If you're not sure about where it is on your computer then you can do an open search by typing in part of the file name or file format { part after the dot in filename & go through the results lists to try & locate it.

Hope this helps.

How to edit picture?

Hi

You don't say which operating system you are using.

Photo Editing requires Photo Editing Software.

To do basic photo editing (cropping, rotating, flipping, adjust brightness, adjust contrast, adjust image size, adjust colo(u)r, adjust exposure, adjust size, adjust red eye) you can use free, built-in software that comes bundled with Windows and Microsoft Office such as: Paint, Microsoft Picture Viewer and Windows Photo Gallery.

In increasing order of editing functions:

Windows Photo Gallery: Fix > Auto Adjust, Adjust Exposure, Adjust Colour, Crop Picture, Fix Red Eye

Microsoft Office Picture Viewer: Picture > Brightness & Contrast, Colour, Crop, Rotate, Flip, Red Eye Removal, Resize, Compress.

Paint: Image > Flip/Rotate, Resize/Skew, Crop, Invert Colours, Adjust Attributes, Clear Image, Opaque.

In Paint you can also use additional tools to manipulate the image or add or delete shapes, text and colour (with a selection of writing or drawing implements): Free Form Select, Select, Fill with Colour, Magnifier, Brush, Text, Curve, Polygon, Rounded Rectangle, Ellipse, Rectangle, Line, Airbrush, Pencil, Pick Colour, Eraser/Colour Eraser.

In Windows Photo Gallery you can view and edit the same image in either of these 3 programs by clicking Open.

For more advanced photo editing, you can use the bundled software that comes with digital cameras such as:

Adobe Photoshop Elements

ACDSee

Picasa

Photo Studio

For more advanced, professional standard photo editing you must buy expensive Photo Ediiting and Graphic Design software such as:

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe LightRoom

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe InDesign

CorelDRAW

Corel Painter

I hope this helps.

Crop a photo

Your best bet is to download the photograph and crop it in Microsoft paint (or any other editor) then re-upload to Facebook.
Unless you wish to use the picture as your profile picture, in which case just click "use as profile picture" and crop.

Restore original photo

What software did you do this in? With most programs, if you just recently made the crop and didn't close the program yet, you can go to Edit --> Undo, or you could bring the original file back from a backup assuming you make frequent backups.
