Question about Sony KP-46S25 TV

1 Answer

Hi, I plug in the sony KP-46s25 in to 120 volts, the high voltage comes on automatically and will not shut off at the on/off button and the red, blue and green tubs comes on for 2 seconds and then off. The sound also comes on. If I change channels 4 or 5 times to find a signal the sound will shut down. The only way to stop the high voltage is to unplug the sony KP-46s25. The Problem is in the power supply board. The 12v standby voltage is some how crossing over somewhere and turn on the relay, which turns on all the voltages on the power supply board. I check just about every part on the power supply board, I can't find the bad part. I took the G board out and put it on the table. check all the voltages. all voltages are there, but 18v is low like 10v. when the G board is in the set there is no voltege at the relay pin going in to the G board. I unplug the wire from the relay in pin on the G board and tested that wire and it was 5v coming out. when I push on the on/off button on the front of the set, the 5v from the wire would go on and off like it is supposed to. I replaced The Q655 2sa1048TP RY- Drive anyway, no luck. This is Sony KP-46s25 1996 I do thank you for any help, Derral

Confirm the voltage of G BOARD TP135V is less than

    137.0Vdc.
I will post for more once your B is OK
    -------------------------------------------------------
Voltage of G BOARD TP135V is 136.2Vdc this is with no load on it.

  • Derral Oct 01, 2010

Hi, ok replace the Q655 with: 2sc2458 NPN. And replaced IC 651
Now the Power Supply works like it's supost to.

The promlum now is: when I plugged in the 120ACV the TV will come on automatically.
when I push the off button the TV will go off, when I push the on button the TV will come on.
The on and off works like it's supposed to. Except when I first plug it in.

On and off works, Vol up and down

  • Derral Oct 03, 2010

    I checked the Q652 it is good it is a : 2sc2458TP

I checked the Q653 it is good it is a: 2SA1048TP

With the Power Supply board put back in the TV B is 132V

  • Derral Oct 04, 2010

Hi, I will change this right a way, thank you.
-- just hope you have read what i have posted earlier-

    Q652 should be PNP

    -Q653 should be NPN

Hi, just to let you know I work on tv avery now and then just as a hobby.

I buy this tv for my son to have to play his games on.

not in a big hurry to get fix, but he is.

we had a 46" RCA but it died, so we are working on this sony.

    Sony KP-46S25 Service Manual
    RA-1 Chassis No. SCC-H53J-A
    I have paper

  • Derral Oct 11, 2010

    This RCA P46924

I replace the flyback and horizontal.

Convergence was off, went in to Services mold to adjust.

could not get it to adjust a nuff to be good.

Dont have a RCA chipper tool to do the rest of the convergence.

The price for one would not be worth it.http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/RC...

So I stop working on it.

  • Derral Oct 12, 2010

Yes the convergence power supply has the right output voltages on it.

here is the first one :

you should be having 12V here:

I understand if you have not read all my post:

    and these is it again:

    Your 18V starts here:

have you check the diode and the capacitor?

If the other side of the relay goes to emitter it is PNP

But if it goes to Collector it is NPN

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 19, 2010

    On your browser:

you can insert pictures no more than 150KB

or you can post a link where i can view.

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 19, 2010

Another alternative is to supply the 18V with a separate power supply and check

if voltage is the same .

If it do , then you may have to check further , till you found the cause.

( if it not the diode and the capacitor )

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 19, 2010

since you have a 12V then here is the back up of 18V

    unless D688 is open

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 19, 2010

And these could be the reason by you are only having about 10.89V

if diode and capacitor is OK

  • Rommel Cana

Going back to your Relay drive ,

Where is the other pin of relay connected ?

Is it on the Emitter or Collector?

  • Derral Sep 19, 2010

If the other side of the relay goes to emitter it is PNP

But if it goes to Collector it is NPN

It goes to Collector. I have to get the right one to put in.

Then I put 12v to pin 3 of cn653 "Relay" win I did the relay terned on and off like it supposed to.

You really need a separate or external power supply,

a ) first you have to insure that the circuits after the diode D664 is OK. ( 18V )

    you can safely use 12V @ 1A

b ) these will actually test your many zener diodes on the G Board, by

connecting in series with at least 1K resistor , to determine if OK

I am sorry I cannot send attachments right away to your email address, I will have to

ask permission , but that would take more time , depending on their response.

  • Rommel Cana

The relay will not latch if the Relay Terminal is connected to PNP transistor in Collector

but on emitter it will work ( collector should be to ground )

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 22, 2010

then these NPN driver transistor ( relay ) should be connected to the Collector

the only difference is that your schematics do not have the NPN driver.

Let us follow what and where are the components connected accordingly, not according to your

schematic but according to your board

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 22, 2010

What I am basing is about where it is connected, and through the service manual,

You can check and confirm on your former owner if yours is the same.

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 22, 2010

Q662 is just a " back up " transistor , should be PNP,

these transistor only works at these conditions

a ) when the relay is driven ( latch ) by NPN driver transistor

base voltage is lesser than emitter voltage ( PNP )

    b ) when there is supply on its emitter ( 12 V )

    c ) D608 is good same with resistor R636

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 22, 2010

On Q652 it must also be PNP

these transistor is just for " Soft Start ", it is triggered when the relay have latched

there are also zener diode with it.

To properly check the drive relay,

use a separate power supply , Inject a voltage with a series 1K to 4.7K to the base and it will

latch your relay ( NPN driver not PNP )

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 22, 2010

Have you checked these out ?

If you will still be having like 10V on the 18V line?

You can hang one side of the resistor ( R633 ) if you are using a separate power supply

just to determine if these IC drains the supply of 18V

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Sep 22, 2010

These Q652 is driven by these transistor

I have a sony big screen tv kp 51ws510 there is a small board on the left of the tv which in the center of it has a small black box part no dslu1 12vdc025w 5a/100 that clicks every tine I try and turn on...

On the bottom of the photo, the large capacitor with two small blue capacitors to the left, need to check the voltage (should be close to 400 volts); is failing if there are only 380 volts. Today's TVs are like computers, and the high voltage circuit is checked and if it does not have the proper voltage the TV will shutdown.

My sony kp- fx532m91 has trouble in turning on it takes 30 to 60 minutes before it will open/on. and it blinks six time every 3seconds. what could be a possible remedy anyone can help me.

Iam thinking that 6 blinks means power suply make sure all voltages are right according to the board.Could be somthing is pulling down on 5 volt line or12 volt line. If it is a CRT which Iam sure it is then there is 150 volts DC or so for the flyback there is a high voltage block for the high voltage for each gun red blue and green.Check power suply horizontal output high voltage block focus and screen block.

I have a 2002 Sony KP-57WS500 that occasionly (randomly?) flashes red lines and then goes to a full screen red while giving an electrical "cracking" sound before shutting down. Once shut down,...

Seems like your RED CRT is shorting out or failing. Do you notice any other colors besides just red having problems? The blinking of the red light eight times is a High voltage error. It could be your D board but I'm thinking it is more likely the red crt is probably shorting out.

Picture went out and red light on the front by power button is blinking. When I turn TV on I can hear sound but no picture,, then TV turns off automatically after a few seconds.

Hi,
It seems problem with low screen voltage to three picture tubes in this rear projection tv.
If standby light blinks 5 times after three seconds long pause then adjust screen volts of each picture tube to solve this issue.
Screen volt adjustment requires expertise and job of professional so please call local tv repairman to help you.
Thanks.

5 blinks states faulty on CRT baseboard circuitry where the video signal is amplified. A bad video amplifier IC, loose solder connection or Absence of 200 volts and G2 voltages. If 200v or G2 voltages were not present, look for the resistor block for screen and focus adjustment. try to adjust the screen voltage of each crt...

My Sony KP 51W520 won't come on. The standby light flashes 10 times. I read through the other people's problems listed here and everyone else has had either 3 blinks or 9. Any thoughts?

Hi.
it seems that your power supply or high voltage section is failing. Look for PWM IC genarator. MCZ 3001D on Power supply and near high voltage section. Try to replace these IC's.

If the flyback is bad, the 135 volts will reach about 70 or 80 volts and the set will shut down, and the LED will blink twice. Usually, for 8 blinks, the high voltage capacitor inisde the splitter is shorted, and an easy test for this is to disconnect the thin gray ground wire, move it away from everything else and turn the set on. The set will now run but the ground wire will hiss like crazy. If you replaced the splitter but the set will not run, try disconnecting the 3 high voltage wires to the CRT's and see if the set runs. If it does, reconnect the high voltage wires one by one until you find which CRT is loading down the high voltage. Let me know how you make out.

eight blinks means, "High-voltage error" and the probable cause location listed is, "T8005 is faulty (D board)". T8005 is the fly-back transformer assembly.
