Question about GE GTH18ISXSS Stainless Steel Top Freezer Commercial Refrigerator

1 Answer

This unit is new and we plan to turn it off for 5 months each year. I will leave it open and the power off. I have concern that with the compressor off for an extended time the piston may get dry (no oil) and that may shorten the life of the unit. We have just replaced a whirlpool that died after less than three years.

The compressor is in a sealed environment that has been drawn to a vacuum before the refrigerant is installed. The oil and the refrigerant that go into that compressor are moisture free and contaminate free...
What I am saying here is that there is no moisture or air in that system that could set up a piston like in a car...
The system is totally sealed and air free and moisture free...
Letting that compressor sit will not harm it one bit....if it fails it will be because of other mechanical or electrical failure and not because of setting and not running...

My samsung model un46b6000vfxza led tv has colored verticle lines through the picture. Normal picture for about 5 seconds after turning on and then the lines appear.

If anyone else is experiencing this same issue. Please feel free to contact me, as I am planning to gather as many customers information as possible that have experienced this same problem, in order to start a class action lawsuit concerning Samsung's selling of merchandise with knowledge of design flaws and planned obsolescence. Feel free to reach out to me at

I purchased this same Model Television in 2010 for $3300 from Best Buy, purchased the 5 year warranty, and the week after those 5 years were up from originally being registered on their website, this issue occurred completely out of nowhere.

The only fix is to purchase and entirely new replacement part (LTS460HF08) which they no longer carry and which cannot be found through other means.

Do not hesitate, please reach out with any questions or concerns, as I have ceased purchasing anything else from Samsung, have recommended the same from family, friends, followers, coworkers, social media outlets, and hopefully as soon as we can get enough names to begin this class action lawsuit, the mainstream media.

Thank you,

Concerned Consumer.

The power light is faint and flickering on and off

These power lights are usually of the neon lamp type, and they typically do not last a long time, especially when they are powered on 24/7. They typically fail by flickering at first, then, eventually, they just go out. If you feel confident as a "do it yourselfer", you can often replace this lamp for only a few bucks, but it does require disassembly of the control unit. Otherwise, I'd just leave it alone. If you're concerned about food loss, I'd invest in a freezer alarm. The lamp has no bearing on the operation of the compressor unit. On, flickering or out completely, the freezer will still operate normally.

When turn off. makes a humming sound. compressor seems to be running.

Have same issue with 3 year old Frigidaire dehumidifier purchased in 2012. Must unplug to stop compressor running with power switch turned off. Unit gets hot and smells. Unplugging creates arcs at outlet since unit is pulling a lot of power. Plugging back in after some hours will make it appear to run normally and again remove moisture but it will not shut off when the fan goes off (humidistat bad?) and the set-point is reached. Cannot leave plugged in due to safetty/fire/overheating concern. Have not found answer on this forum or any other so far.

This unit was purchased new 61 months ago. First instance of any problems, ever, today it seems food isn't being kept frozen solid. We suspect the compressor is having a problem. There was no sound...

Yes it is a very big concern. It sounds to me like your condenser is dirty and the compressor gets hot and goes off on overload. You can tell by putting your hand NEAR the compressor.Be careful as the compressor can be very hot

Can we retrofit our 20 year old KitchenAid Superba Refrigerator

Refrigerator efficiency is dependant on multiple things...

compressor efficiency
Refrigerant used
Size/type of evaporator
Size/type of condensor
Ambient temperature
Insulation used and thickness of

There have been some advances in compressor efficiency in the last twenty years but if your unit is using R-12 it would most likely have to be upgraded to R134a due to environmental regulations. Therefore, without a major redesign of your unit to include resizing the system and somehow adding insulation, updating to the newest and greatest compressor will really not gain you much in efficiency and cost as much or more than an entire new unit.

There are still units made without stainless. Unless your unit is a power hungry monster (and yours is not) I doubt a new unit would save you more than a buck a month in power savings.

I wish I could make a recommendation for you but I do not know the market well enough. I know if I were in your place I would hang on to my unit for as long as it works well and continue to save up for a higher end model (with the best warranty/service plan) and look ofr the best replacement out there.

Note: Beware of high end units that are just high priced due to looks. Most units these days are made from the lowest bidder parts (world-wide) and even if they look awsome and have high quality standards during production are subject to the "roll of the dice" due to the cheap electronics used for controls.

Good-luck, Subdriver

Blower no cool

Chances are the tech said it was a "capacitor".
That is one of the few (and minor) parts that routinely go bad and would be no suprise with a 17 month old unit. Nearby lightening strikes or power surges can cause them to fail. That is true with all brands.

(the condensor is the entire outdoor unit)

Goodman systems typically come with a 1 year all parts warranty, and a 10 year compressor warranty.

Since your unit is 17 years old the capacitor is not under warranty. (unless you purchased an extended warranty plan of some kind.)

$90 is reasonable compared to the typical going rate for a capacitor replacement and service call.

Unit will not turn on

Sounds like it has a bad relay on the compressor. This is most common. If it is anything else I would suggest buying a new unit due to cost for repair.
