If the hard drive is new, it needs to be formatted firts before you can use it.
You have to right click on My computer (Windows XP) or Computer or Pc (Vista and 7)
Select "Manage"
A new windows will open. From th elist on the left select "Disk Management"
The new hard drive will be visible with a red mark on the left.
Right click on the red mark and select Initialize the drive.
Follow the wizard.
Once the disk is initialized, the red mark will dissapear.
On the same drive, go to the right on the white area and right click it and select New partition.
Follow the wizard.
You're done.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

You better check with the Seagate people. This seems to be a problem with the casing. And since you're under warranty, you can get a replacement.

Verbatim 500 gig hard drive not reading

Hi,

Clicking is generally a bad sign as it indicates the harddrive is seeking over and over not getting a read of the pallets (think arm on a record player swinging back and forth with no needle).

Good news is if it's just the control cicuitry the drive can usually be recovered for under $500. If the failure is internal rates can range from $700-$5000 depending on the level and type of damage.

If you think you would want to try either of these methods get back to me and I can recommend appropriate service providers for either.

Sorry it's not better news,

Chris

Recognized - but no mount

Don't know about the MAC part, but an I/O error implies that the either the source file cannot be read or the destination drive will not write. This is usually an indicator of a bad HDD. To check, I would attempt to connect the external drive to another computer. If it still gives the same indication, contact the drive manufacturer about data recovery recommendations

External Hard Drive No Longer Recognized

hey im the same person who just posted above. i went to WD's website, and it said unplug the hard drive from the computer, and unplug it from the power source. then plug it into the power outlet, wait for it to spin up, then plug it in via USB/Firewire, whatever. it worked for me, so hopefully it will work for you.
