Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

We accidentally left the freezer door just barely open overnight. The freezer started to thaw somewhat, but we caught the problem before anything had to be thrown out. In other words, there wasn't a lot of defrosting. We removed the removable part of the ice maker and thawed the solid clump of ice cubes and then put it back in. The frezer made more ice cubes, but won't dispense them any more. We then unscrewed the lower portion below the ice maker to see if anything was blocked in there (the part where ice would leave the holding container and come out through the dispenser), but it looked clear. Could there still be melted the refrozen ice blocking the ice from coming out? Did some sort of motor burn out? Would defrosting the freezer fix this somehow and if so, is there any way to do that without emptying the fridge portion too? Thanks!

Yes ice formed in the bottom of the ice bin locking the auger from turning to dispense ice. Defrost the ice bin and wipe clear of any left over water from the melt.

pull your refrig away from the wall and check to see if your compressor is running i'm willing to bet that the start relay is bad you will here a humming and then clicking noise approx every 3-5  mins. its a very easy repair get part number 8201786 from whirlpool it has detailed instructions and should only cost you 40-60 dollars for part.

SOURCE: ICe build-up on coils and frezer does not freeze after a few weeks from thawing.

Check the defrost timer which may be behind the kick-plate, inside the control panel or an Adaptive Defrost Control (motherboard) on the back.

Freezer door accidentally left open. back of freezer iced up. can using a hair dryer carefully thaw the defrost and thermostat controls and get normal function?

it could be used provided that the drier was not on high and too close to the units
Sometimes it is jut better to leave the door open with a fan running full blast into the freezer as the continuous supply of air will defrost it quickly
place old towels /rags at the door opening to soak up the water

Not freezing water pooling door shelves

sounds like coils froze up... in freezer about halfway down there is a panel. unplug fridge.. remove panel, use blow dryer to thaw coils. this will cause a lot of water to come out. once they are thawed out, replace panel, plug it back up and it should be fine... sounds like someone left it cracked open overnight.

The freezer is fine but the lower fridge is at 58 f

There is ice build up blocking air flow to the refridgerator compartment. Put everything in a cooler, turn fridgfe off, thaw OVERNIGHT with BOTH DOORS PROPED OPEN and then rinse freezer with a liter(big slam) of water. Let sit 5 minutes and pull bottom drain pan . Empty it. IF YOU RUSH THIS THEN The internal ventalation will still be blocked. 12 hour thaw minimum even with doors open.

Left door open, closed next day, but only blowing cool air now

You will need to turn the unit off and let it completely unthaw. There is frost that builds up in the ducts and behind the panels when the door is left open that will cause the unit to not cool or circulate where needed.

Everything works but no water

Try turning down the freezer a little.

You can 'thaw' the water line in the door by hanging some towels in the freezer with the door open. Should thaw in a couple hours. At least this way you don't need to empty the freezer.

Haier HRF10 Fridge weird motor sounds

hi. thanks for the question. leaving the door open ,would let a lot of moisture to enter the freezer, and cause it to frost up. to clear frost. cut power to fridge, open the doors .,let thaw over nite clean up the water mess. dry the inside of fridge & freezer turn power on good to go. to stop the door from being left open .lift the legs under the front so the fridge has more weight, and it will close by self . no more doors left open. thanks the appliance doc
