    Thank you for your response.

The water problem was not external to the frezeer, it was interanl. It sounds like you are referncing an external valve.

The model # of our refrigerator is MSD2454GRQ.

Thank you for your attention to this probelm.

The water valve is not shutting off causing this problem.Replace the water valve. On the water valve there is a nut.turn it clockwise to stop water flow.If the valve nut is loose then just re-tight it.But if its already proper then the water is faulty replace it.Dont over tighten the nut. The water inlet valve is in the back of your refrigerator were your water line is passing. This valve supplies water to the icemaker from the water supply line. In most cases the water valve has to be replaced.

Yes but there is also a valve solenoid at the back of the freezer section which controls flow of water. One water that is external for water filling in the tube and one other internal valve for ice-maker at the back of the freezer section. The ice-maker bin has to be removed.
Check out. Thanks for keeping updated with your query.

Icemaker not working

In order to keep your refrigerator's ice maker working properly, there are some components that will require routine maintenance and inspection. Some of the most common problems that can occur with your ice maker are the ice maker not making any ice, making too much ice and not shutting off, the ice tasting bad, ice cubes too small or discolored and ice cubes not ejecting from the ice maker. Checking your ice maker for potential problems on a regular basis will keep it operating efficiently.

1.Inspect the water supply line for any signs of cracking or crimps in the line. A pinched water supply line can keep the water from getting to the ice maker, resulting in no ice or smaller than desired ice cubes. Check to verify that the water supply valve is open enough to provide an adequate supply of water to the ice maker.

2. Flush out the water supply lines if you are noticing a bad taste in the ice cubes. This can be done by disconnecting the lines and running hot water through them. Turn on the hot water at the kitchen sink and place one end of the water supply line near the tap, holding it in place to allow hot water to run through it. Place the other end of the supply line in the sink to allow the water to drain through.

3 Reattach the water supply lines to the water supply and refrigerator. Repeat step 2 for the water inlet hose which runs from the inlet valve to the ice maker. If the water supply lines are old or discolored, consider replacing them with new water supply lines.

4 Check the temperature in your freezer to verify that it is getting cold enough. The freezer's temperature should be at 5 degrees and can be set with a control dial, normally located in the refrigerator compartment of your appliance. To test the freezer's temperature, place a cup of cooking oil in the freezer with a cooking thermometer sitting in the cooking oil. Allow the oil to sit in the freezer for 2 hours and then check the temperature.

5 Check the ice maker's shutoff arm to verify that it is operating properly. To work normally, the shutoff arm should be in the lowered position. Inspect the arm for anything blocking it or preventing the arm from moving freely. Lift the arm up to see if the unit shuts off in the up position.

6 Unplug the refrigerator from the electrical outlet and remove the faceplate of the ice maker's shutoff switch with a screwdriver, located on the ice maker. Remove the entire ice maker unit from the freezer by undoing the screws that are holding it in place. Unplug the ice maker from the freezer and take it out of the freezer to work on.

7 Remove the mounting plate on the top of the ice maker by unscrewing the screws and lifting it off the unit. Locate the shutoff switch, which has three electrical wires attached to it. The shutoff switch is located directly under the shutoff arm of the ice maker. Pull the electrical wires off of the shutoff switch with needle-nose pliers and label them so you know how to put them back correctly.

8 Inspect the electrical terminals for any rust or corrosion. Use an electrical testing meter to verify that the shutoff switch is working properly. You should get a reading of 0 or infinity on the meter. If the shutoff switch is not giving a reading, replace it with a new switch and reattach the electrical wires to the switch.

9 Place the mounting plate back over the ice maker and attach it with screws, then reattach the entire ice maker unit to the freezer. Plug the ice maker wiring back into the freezer and put the face plate back over the front of the ice maker.

10 Plug the refrigerator back into the electrical outlet and allow the refrigerator to run for a couple hours. Inspect the ice maker to verify that it is working properly.

Hope this tips would help you.
Good day! : )

Water supply for ice maker won't turn off

Hi,

Its either the water valve thats not closing, or the ice maker not telling the water valve to shut off.

Turn off the ice maker, and see if water still pours out, or even better, unplug the refrigerator and if the water still pours out of the ice maker, then the water valve is bad and you should have it replaced.

I just hooked up the ice maker to the water line and put the lever down on the icemaker. The water has not filled the ice maker. Is there something I need to do further? The model # is 596.765 73600

  • here are some things to check for, please be very careful and only to this if you disconnect the power supply.

  • 1 Inspect the shut off arm located on the side of the ice maker. This arm should move up and down with a slight resistance when pushing upward. Make sure that this lever is not frozen to the side of the ice maker preventing it from dispensing ice. In addition, if the arm move loosely up and down, then it is broken and must be replaced.

  • 2 Verify that the ice maker is receiving water. Check the water supply valve which is usually located either behind the refrigerator or under the kitchen sink. The knob should be turned all the way clockwise until it will no longer move.
  • 3 Move the freezer or refrigerator out from the wall and locate the water supply line. This line extends from the water supply valve that was previously located. Make sure there are no kinks or twists in the water supply line as this prevents the ice maker from getting water. Also check for leaks along the supply line which will also prevent the ice maker form working.
  • 4 Locate the manual shut off button for the freezer, if it has one. In some models, the shut off button is located inside the freezer door. If this is the case, simply check to make sure the button is switched to the "on" position. Shut off valves are only on some Kenmore refrigerator/freezer combination appliances.
  • 5 Measure the temperature in the freezer by placing a thermometer inside and allowing it to sit for approximately one hour. If the temperature is higher than 17 degrees F, then something is wrong with the main freezer and not the ice maker.
  • 6 Check the water inlet valve to ensure that is allows water to flow through freely. First turn off the water supply at the water supply valve, usually located under the sink or behind the appliance. Locate the water inlet valve by following the water supply line up to where it attaches to the refrigerator or freezer. Turn the plastic nut at the base of the supply line counterclockwise to detach the supply line. Pull the two or four wires of the water inlet valve off of the terminals. Inspect the wires for burn marks or corrosion. If these are present, it means they must be replaced as water is not being fed to the freezer.
  • good luck

Ice mker does not make ice

    Hi,
There are several causes of this.
Here is a list to check. Some of this may seem silly, but follow it through.
1 Water supply to back of fridge is shut off.
2 Tube that supplies water is pinched or kinked closed. Similar to a Kinked garden hose.
3 Solenoid valve (electric valve that opens and closes that supplies water to ice maker tray has failed)
4 Solenoid valve does not seal completely allowing water to seep past it. If this is the case the tube inside the freezer compartment will have a solid piece of ice in it which prevents water from going into the ice make. (very common cause of failure) Take very close look at the tube. Usually it can be removed and reinserted fairly easily. You may possibly have to remove the Ice maker. That involves more work, but not a great deal. Let me know if you need to remove it and I'll write you a procedure.
5 Ice maker feeler arm up (crescent shaped cube style of ice maker) which shuts the ice maker off.
6 Switch inside Ice Maker that controls fill valve failed. Or other parts in it failed. Replace ice maker. (usually costs less that getting it repaired)
7 County did not pay water bill to the state, and they shut off your water to collect.
    (Rare)
I hope this helps. As it happens to be new years eve. Don't let this ruin it in any way. Get a bag
of Ice at the local store and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR
    Best, Mark

Ice maker does not make ice anymore. appears the tray is not filling with water. door water dispenser is still working

Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. It’s on the back where the water supply comes in. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze blocking the fill tube.. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

Ice maker not producing ice. Changed the water solenoid valve and the ice maker. still no ice! what is the problem here. how can i remedy this.

    Good Day,
    Obvious but,
Shut water off to house at the meter. Remove supply line to water valve. Place end in a bucket, have someone turn on main valve for a 15 second count. Should have a hard steady supply from the line into the bucket.
If no joy, and this is common,
Remove Ice maker and see if ice has built up in supply tube from outside back of machine into the rear of the ice maker.
If iced, defrost, but caution. Heat guns, hair dryers ect. can do more harm than good. Go slow.
I do not recommend heat because of all the plastic and vinyl. Just shutting down the machine by unplugging it, and air drying.
P.S. I've installed brand new ice makers and valves that didn't work out of the box.

KENMORE ICE MAKER DOESN'T WORK. WORKED WHEN IT WAS NEW. NO WATER.NO PUMPING NOISE.

    Good day,
The first step is to check the ice maker.
Pour water in the cavity of the ice maker until near full. Turn ice maker on and close freezer door and wait 2 hours. If it dumps ice then you can exclude the ice maker. If no action, and the water is still frozen in the cavity the ice maker must be replaced.

If the ice dumps then follow these steps.....
You want to check the water supply line to the machine from the house supply.
I prefer to shut the whole house down with the shut off valve at the meter. Disconnect the water line to the water valve at the bottom rear of the fridge. Point the open end of the water line into a bucket, and while watching have someone turn the water to the house on for a 10 to 15 second count. Water should come out of the line forcefully. If not replace the line and it's connecting valve.

If water supply is good, then replacing the water valve itself should solve your problem.

P.S. In rare occasions, the file tube from the back of the refrigerator to the inlet of the rear of the ice maker can build up with ice. You have to remove the ice maker to check this. If there is ice in this tube you have to melt it out.
However, caution using heat, as from a hair dryer ect. Heat from these devices can do a lot of damage to the hose and other plastic components in that area.
