Hello george985,

Most likely you have carpet fibres /pet hairs wedged between the rotors. Try cleaning these out first.

If that does not help, most likely the motor that drives the rotor for the brushes is defective. This is a well known problem for this motor. If this is the case, then you may have to call Hoover and get the machine serviced.

    HERE
is a schematic diagram of your machine as well as parts that are available for it.

Here is an article I saw on a different post, and hopefully should be of some help..

"I had the same problem and it was inside the turbine assembly. If you
take the turbine assembly off the machine and open it up, you will see
the turbine blades on one side and the reduction gears on the other
side. The problem on mine was a needle bearing sandwiched between two
washers on the reduction gear side. This bearing/washer stack is the
stabilizer for the turbine gear shaft. Mine was rusted solid. I removed
the washers and bearing and cleaned them up with a wire wheel being
careful not to lose any of the tiny needles. Once evrything was
rust-free, I reset the needles with grease and sandwiched the bearing
between the washers. I then reinstalled this stack back in the case
along with the other gears, regreased everything, and buttoned it up.
Brushes are spinning better than they have in a long time."

    Hope that helps!

Hi,

Check to make sure that the foam filter inside the recovery tank lid has at least a 1/4 inch gap from the top. Other then that, the turbine is what turns the brushes, either the shaft on the top of he brush block broke off, or the turbine is stuck. Sometimes you can take th turbine apart and clean out the components, must times it is better to just replace it .

Goodluck..

I cant get my hoover vaccum brush to spin

First be sure the switch/circuit breaker on top of the nozzle is on. The brush also will not turn unless the handle is released and tilted back. This model of Hoover has a gear drive to turn the brushes. This was VERY prone to problems, and Hoover discontinued making replacement parts for it several years ago.

I have a brand new shark navigator. It is smelling like it is burning and the bottom is so hot that you cannot touch it. It makes a sound like a bearing went out like a jet engine sound. I love this...

It looks like the rotatin brush is stucked. This brush is actioned by a ruber belt. If the brush is stucked then the motor axel is sliding on it and gets hot. From here is comming the smell. Ceck the brush and find out what is keep it stuck. More than sure there is a shoelace. Remove it and enjoy your machine.

On hoover steam carpet cleaner, the brushes do not rotate on low or high settings.

Follow these steps if the Brushes Fail to Spin
•If the brushes on your Hoover carpet cleaner fail to spin, there may be a problem---some sort of blockage---with the suction or with the belt that turns the brushes.
Turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and inspect the brush area. Debris, strings, or pet hair may be tangled in the rollers, keeping them from turning. Use a pair of scissors to cut away any obstructions in this area. Flip the Hoover carpet cleaner back over, and turn it on to see if cleaning the rollers has solved the problem.
To check the belt, turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and remove the bottom plate screw with a Phillips head screwdriver. Investigate the belt area to see if it is broken or has somehow slipped off. If it is broken, you can order a part from Hoover.com or from many of the other online parts stores.
When the belt arrives, simply slide it on in place of the broken belt, reattach the bottom plate and turn the Hoover carpet cleaner right-side up. Turn it on to test your solution.

New Hoover Steam Vac's brushes do not spin

The brushes are turning by an air driven turbine. The turbine has a pivot bushing made of steel inside of it that gets rusty because of the water that is running through it. The turbine will have to be replaced. You can find a genuine hoover replacement part by following the link below.

Hoover steam vac model f7425-900 filter is

The brush system on this model has a poor engineering design in that the brushes are running off an air turbine, which uses a steel bushing to spin the turbine which gets rusty from the moisture when the machine is being used. No long term solver. I would replace the machine with a Dirt Devil Platinum Force model

Describe how to replace belt on hoover windtunnel bagless

If you turn the vacuum so the bottom is facing up you will see the base plate that covers the roller brush. There will be four screws (usually phillips head), remove the screws and the base plate will lift off. You now have access to the roller brush and belt. Lift the roller brush up and remove the old belt. Place one end of the new belt over the motor shaft and the other end over the roller brush and put the roller brush back in place. Now simply replace the base plate and you're done! This models requires Hoover belt # 38528033 (single) or Hoover belt #40201160 (2 pack). You can get this belt at www.vacbelts.com.

Belt replacement Hoover carpet cleaner

Hoover steamvacs don't use belts. If the brushes are not turning, pull the brush block out, turn the machine on and see if the square hole where the brush block was, is turning. If not then the turbine is bad. Sometimes you can take the turbine apart and clean it out. most times I have found , replace it.
