My kerosene 50,000 btu reddy heater fires up for about five seconds and then shuts off. I put no. 1 kerosene in so it burns cleaner. It's 2/3s full. the drywallers used it last so it's a little dusty. ...

There is a sensor inside that tells the heater that the flame is lit...if it doesn't "see" the flame it will shut down...this may be caused by the filter in the rear being clogged and it is not allowing the pump to produce enough pressure to ensure a good flame or the pump inside may have sucked up some debris and is now not producing the proper pressure required. Another possibility is that there may be enough dust on the sensor itself to cause it to not "see" the flame...if you take the cover off you can find this sensor...it will have 2 wires coming off of it and it looks like a photocell...it should be located just in front of the jet where the fuel comes out...a word of caution...the ignitor(and the spark plug looking thing) have very high voltage on them(around 5000Volts) so I would avoid touching these parts while in operation.

When filled with kerosene then plugged in, the heater will kick on for about 3 seconds and the fan will run but it will not ignite, then it shuts off. reddy heater 55, 55000btu. runs on K1 or fuel oil.

Htr shuts off after awhile and won't come back on till it's cooled down

I had the same problem with my heater. It was a cracked fuel line. I replaced the rubber hoses. On mine there was a pick up hose and a feed hose. They were dry cracked. Works great now. Hope that helps you out.
